“Close to Telluride, without the high prices”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 July 2010

We spent two days in Telluride for the Bluegrass Festival. Although we loved Telluride and wanted to stay another day, our hotel charged $400.00 per night. We bit the bullet for 2 days but lived without a/c and with our windows wide open, endured the noisy crowds on the street.
20 miles outside of town, we found this wonderful place. Nice modern rooms, comfy beds, big bathrooms and quiet! The added bonus was the restaurant. After a full day of hiking, we longed for a quick meal, (great hamburgers) hot bath (did I mention the jacuzzi in the rooms)? and quiet, large, beds with A/C!! Make sure to have the wonderful breakfast on the terrace before you leave.

I would definately recommend, if you can't stomach the prices in Telluride, to give this place a try. The only thing I would advise Trip Advisor Members, is, if in Telluride for the day, get back before it's too dark. The road out of Telluride is pretty hairy and dark. It stays light out until about 9:00 in the summer, so this shouldn't be a problem.

PS: Our new IPAD worked like a charm in the room. They really did have wireless.

“Pet and People Friendly, Quiet, Cozy”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 May 2010

Stayed here with our two medium dogs on the recommendation of a friend. The pets were very welcome, and we were able to walk them right out the sliding glass to do business. The lodge provides a pooper scooper and an in-ground "doggie dooley" for disposal, so no worrying about waste bags. Pet fee was a flat $30, not $30 per night as it said on the site. That was a pleasant surprise. The in-room flashlight was handy for those nighttime calls of the wild with the dogs. The room also had a mini-fridge which we did not use. The room was nicely decorated and felt more like a guest room in someone's home than a sterile hotel room. Nice colors and lovely fixtures and furniture. The bed was a four-poster! The room was a cozy size so would not be good if you're planning to spend the day in there. If, however, you plan to get out and enjoy the beautiful surroundings, it's great. There is a small park just down the road with river frontage, ponds, playground, and picnic shelter. Our dogs really enjoyed walking the trail there and meeting other pooches. Very convenient to Telluride, particularly as it is just off the highway. No problems with highway noise, though. The on-site restaurant and bar serves good food and there are televisions in the bar if you must catch the big game. On our second night we were able to get pizza, drinks, and dessert from the bar and bring it back to our room. We found the staff there to be very nice. The grounds are nicely kept. We paid $90/nt. and I thought it was a good value for the money. I would highly recommend this as a quiet, enjoyable accomodation for people who travel with pets.

I have no complaints about this lodge and would highly recommend it, but I considered the following in giving 4 stars instead of 5: The room was adequate but not spacious. The wi-fi signal kept dropping; I ended up using my mobile broadband. The staff was great, but sometimes took a minute to find. There are no frills such as a pool or fitness center. Otherwise, five stars!

“Pleasant Surprise”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 March 2010

Stayed at the Blue Jay on a trip to Telluride. After checking rates in Telluride, decided to stay here to save some money. Although a little out of the way (about 16 miles from Telluride), the hotel is very clean, very polite and helpful staff, and a good self contained restaurant. Would recommend the Blue Jay for those folks who want to stay near Telluride without paying ski town rates.

“Perfect Stay at the Blue Jay Lodge”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 March 2010

Clean, spacious and comfortable. The family run lodge was a perfect place to access Telluride, Montrose, Ouray and Crested Butte (a three plus hour , very scenic drive). Great value. Exceptionally helpful staff (Jason, particularly) and quiet, cozy atmosphere. The bar food was great and the prices reasonable. We watched the Olympics or college basketball while we dined in a friendly, good vibe, casual lounge with locals and visitors. Dogs permitted , but no sign of wear and tear in the rooms which were clean and comfortable. The drive to Telluride or to Mountain Village was quick and easy (even in snow) and made for nice transitions from skiing or dining. If they could change anything, the breakfast food (plain and too salty) and the coffee was a bit disappointing, but all else far exceeded our expectations.

“Great Place to Stay”

I rate it very good because it was really good and luxurious except far from the town, so every time you go out you need to drive. other than that excellent hotel!
