“An evening away...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 December 2011

Excellent location in a remote area of Colorado. Host was very warm and welcoming. Rooms were well appointed...nice towels, great glassware...beautiful location. Hot tub on the deck was outstanding...super clean and perfect temperature and excellent jets!

Room was very small. With the house almost empty, could have generously assigned us a less small room. Realize we were asking to pay for the lowest priced rooms...but checked in late in a off season time. It might have ensured our return visit and perhaps a willingness to pay the $10.00 more.Room was very small overly warm...slept with the window wide open.

“Clean, restful, beautiful inside & out, definitely a "must stay"!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 November 2011

Spangler House is an amazingly clean, quiet, and relaxing place to stay! Superb food, great hosts who can converse intelligently on any number of topics from wildlife to politics. Cute elderly dog rarely made an appearance...sweet and quiet. Excellent linens and fluffy towels, top-notch mattresses, tasteful decor, friendly ambience! Steven and Jill are excellent owners who made me feel welcome the entire time I stayed there! Deer in the side yard...what more could you ask for? Coffee on the back deck is so relaxing and a great way to start your day. Steven's stuffed french toast is to die for, and I appreciate the recipes on the website. Who knows, maybe I'll try making it for myself. Both Jill and Steven are great story-tellers and are very knowledgeable about Ouray and the surrounding area, so I had plenty of great suggestions for things to do. I would definitely stay at Spangler House again!

Room Tip: All the rooms are wonderful, but next time I will book the buttercup yellow room at the back of the...

“Loved it”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 November 2011

Came to Ouray with my husband and decided to try Spangler house. The owner, Steve is very nice and welcoming. We had a nice breakfast and got to talking with him and another couple. Knows a great deal about Ouray and its history. We stayed in the Dr. Spangler suite, it was very nice and clean and I slept like a baby. I will definitely come back. I probably slept better there than in my own bed!

Room Tip: Spangler Suite is nice and roomy

“THIN WALLS, TERRIBLE LEANING AND LUMPY BED”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 October 2011

DO NOT RECOMMEND AT ALL. The walls were thin, could hear everything the up stairs people were doing, and the people in the front room were having going on for hours at night. We can tell you everything they did that day. The bed was leaning to the outside and very lumpy. We're in our late 30's and needed a chiropractor just to get re-aligned again. We left after the first night, tried to be polite and then got charged for a second night! Then they argued that we didn't tell them WHY we left?? We were trying to be polite because there was another couple in front of us when we were trying to leave. So when we called about the extra charge, the Missus had the audacity to get ticky with us and say that we should have been rude and gotten irate in front of the other guests? Really? We were not raised that way. Stay elsewhere in town, lots of better choices to chose from.

Room Tip: Not the Angel Creek Room! and the views are NOT of the mountains, it's the wall next door.

Here are the facts: The couple in question booked their room for two nights, six nights before their arrival (in the morning). That evening they called and asked about the cancellation policy saying that they might need to cancel. They never identified themselves but we recognized their telephone number. They were emailed the cancellation policy with their confirmation letter and we explained the policy over the telephone when they called. The cancellation policy and payment requirements are also clearly stated on our website.
They checked in between 9:30pm and 10:00pm and the lights were turned out in the front room at about 10:30pm. There was no one in the front room at 10:30 and there is only an attic above their room. You can look at the floor plan on the website and see that the Angel Creek room is unique in that it has essentially double walls around the bedroom. We have had 271 guests that have used this room for a total of 421 nights and this is the first complaint about the bed. A carpenter’s level indicates that there is no tilt to the bed. The mattress is firm and has a thick mattress pad (no lumps found). Maybe the firm mattress had lead to the need of a chiropractor, not lumps; remember 420 complaint free nights spent on this mattress. We stand by the views, as shown on the website, of the mountains from this room.
If we had been given the opportunity to correct their problems we would have. We could have moved them to another room in a different part of the house.
Our conclusion: The couple in question wanted to cancel their reservation but didn’t want to lose their deposit money. So they showed up and created an excuse to leave early, thinking their obligation to pay for their complete reservation (as stated in the confirmation letter and website) would be overlooked. If they had explained their situation to us we would have most likely dropped the charges for the second night. This was a very busy weekend and we could have resold the room and only have charged the couple the cancellation fee.

“Spectacular! Everything”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 October 2011

If the accommodations don't get you, the aroma will!!!
This B&B is delightful! Steve and Jill have a really spectacular place.
Each morning Steve delights the guests with delicious breakfasts.
The rooms are decorated very nicely and are kept immaculate.
It is convenient enough to walk anywheres in the town of Ouray or
take a day trip to surrounding areas. Then when you return there is
the hot tub which is very intimate and inviting.
Spectacular!!

Room Tip: There are a total of 6 rooms. (4 upstairs/2 downstairs)
