Long time Colorado residents, my husband and I decided with a week's notice to visit the magnifcently beautiful San Juan Mountain region of southwestern Colorado. I searched the internet for a hotel or B&B with availability. Most properties were full or had higher rates than we wanted to pay. I came across the Morningsong B&B, which had just recently opened in Ouray. I called the property directly and spoke to Faith, who was very gracious and helpful. We spent two nights there while we played tourist walking the shops of quaint Ouray and Telluride, taking in the beautiful mountain landscape, spending several hours at the Ouray Hot Springs and hiking the falls. Our hosts, David and Faith, were wonderful. Their home has such personal touches, from the antique grandfather clock in the kitchen to the claw foot tub in the guest bathroom. They shared the history of the region and the house with us, both of which were very interesting. Breakfasts prepared by Faith were great and included homemade Chai, french toast with fruit compote, and elegant scrambled eggs. The house is one-half block off Ouray's main street so everything is within walking distance. Also, the house's rooftop patio, complete with comfy chairs and humming birds, offers a relaxing space with views of the mountains which surround Ouray. David and Faith were very helpful when it came to offering opinions on dining options in Ouray. We took several of their suggestions and were highly impressed. After our relaxing stay, we had wished we had another day to enjoy the Morningsong, its gracious hosts, and this incredibly beautiful part of Colorado. Make sure you consider the Morningsong B&B when you visit Ouray.
