It was a long Thanksgiving weekend for an out-of-town visitor. I don't know if this is typical for HIE, as I have never stayed at one before. However, after this visit, I probably won't. Let me say first, that the staff was extremely welcoming, friendly, and interested in me. The hotel's common area in the lobby was very nice. It looks like a mountain lodge with a big fireplace and comfortable seating. A large geographic map of the surrounding mountains. Fresh fruit laid out all the time. There's a little bar that has limited hours, but I didn't partake, other than watching a little football. There is no restaurant, but the breakfast setup was adequate. Cold cereal, yogurt, fruit, hard boiled eggs, some prepacked hot stuff, and the usual beverages. I pointed out the dated milk containers. The hotel had low occupancy, so maybe they just forgot to put out the fresh food. My room was awful, and I should have asked for a different one. It smelled bad. I finally figured out that it was the bathroom, like a sewer smell. The bed was soft and worn. The pillows lumpy and pilley. I asked for new pillows on the first morning, but nothing new appeared for the next four days. The TV is an antiquated small tube set. The furniture is worn and wobbly. The toiletries basic. The towels thin. I had a great view of the supermarket parking lot. But luckily the HVAC fan was loud enough to blot out the noise. What more can I say? It was cheap and located near my friends' house.
