“Decent choice. Confirming reservation might be a good idea.”
We stayed at Coyote Ridge B&B over the July 4th holiday (3 nights, Fri-Sun). Coyote Ridge met our expectations. Room was clean, common areas including the outside, large deck were nice, and breakfasts were filling. We really enjoyed the other couples who were visiting during this time.
As noted in other reviews, be aware that you must ascend a set of stairs to enter the B&B. The Lincoln Room or Wildflower Room requires another set of stairs, if this is of concern to you. The two other rooms (Geranium and Alpine) are on the main floor. The walls are a little thin and you could hear outside of the room, but it was not terribly distracting nor did it prevent us from sleeping.
We did not feel that the B&B was too far away. It's true that there is nothing within walking distance, but Grand Lake was only about a 10 minute drive and there were a couple of restaurants along the road before getting to Grand Lake. The fact that this B&B was not right in town was one of the things that attracted us.
Our stay was fine up until the last evening. If you read the review about the couple who held reservations on July 4th only to learn that day the B&B was overbooked, we can confirm that this did happen.
This is how it played out from our side and the impressions it left us with. We arrived back at the B&B on the 4th late in the afternoon. When we arrived there were two envelopes outside the front door. Kathy (the Innkeeper) had mentioned at breakfast that she would be out for the day. Our first thought was the envelopes contained instructions for new people arriving that day. We did not think anything further of it until the folks from the aforementioned review arrived. My partner happened to go into the house from the deck and met this arriving couple. They related the story as indicated in their review and were very upset (understandably so).
Shortly after that, another couple arrived looking for the Innkeeper and said that they had reservations for that evening. We told them that we had noticed envelopes by the front door. They said that there was one there, but it wasn't for them. Not knowing what to do, they decided to go grab a cocktail down the road and were going to come back.
At this point several things occurred to us. There was a yet unclaimed envelope. Did this mean that another couple had been booked and there was "no room at the Inn"? Then we recalled that everyone who had been at the B&B on Saturday had been booked through the weekend. It was Sunday morning that one couple, from Denver, had to head back early due to a family issue; so that meant that only one room was available but had only become available that day.
We grew very uncomfortable with this situation and felt put in the middle of it. Kathy was not there and we were. We were thrown into a situations that she should have been there to deal with (displaced guests & arriving guests).
At the time it was our assumption that when Kathy made reservations for this displaced couple that as a goodwill gesture she would have paid for their reservation and breakfast as this is what they would have gotten had they stayed with her. We also thought that maybe an offer of a complimentary stay at another time would be a nice gesture as well. After reading this couples review, we were absolutely shocked to learn that none of this occurred. We felt strongly that Kathy should have been there for this couple, potentially another couple and the third couple that had arrived with no idea what to do; or at the very least have provided some phone number that she could have been reached at as opposed to the phone number for the B&B where she was not at.
After all this happened and speculating that there might be another couple arriving with no room available, we "retired" (hid) in our room so as not to be put in the middle. This really turned an otherwise acceptable stay into a disappointing and uncomfortable last evening.
In summary we feel Coyote Ridge is an acceptable choice; but based on our experience would highly recommend confirming your reservation prior to arriving.
