“Clean, reasonably priced motel 30 minutes from Winter Park Ski area”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 February 2011

Good value, considering how close to Winter Park/Mary Jane ski resort. Friendly desk staff. Right across street from Sol Vista ski resort (they have night skiing which is kind of cool in Colorado). Ate breakfast at quaint little place called, I think "Avas Java". Good breakfast and coffee was 6 bucks. Some of the reviewers must of been looking for a 4 star motel, this it is not, but for a clean, warm, friendly motel, close to Winter Park, it was perfect. I agree that heater was a little noisy, but after skiing 6 hours at WP I was so tired who cares. Chris, Dover, Florida.

“OK but not great, did not regret but did notice shortcomings”

Booked based on price and reviews, also location (near Winter Park but 30 minutes north, much cheaper ($59 + tax), OK with us) for a two-night getaway from the Front Range. The room (103) was spacious and clean enough, the fridge, lights, plumbing, and TV worked, the hot tub was hot and clean enough even if the room was a little smelly. Bed comfortable, blankets thin, heater noisy even on low fan but it worked OK. Parked very close to room. Wife said free morning coffee was good (grin).

“Hmmm”

Carpet is completely worn out. Paint has peeled off every surface. Lights are too dim to see by. The parking lot is in bad shape. The internet is slow. There is no view in any direction. The whole motel, inside and out, just has an air of unkempt, rundown, wornout neglect. I can't recommend staying there. Less than 20 minutes south is Winter Park - make the drive, you'll be glad you did.

“LittleTree”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 March 2008

I booked this room last minute. It was spring break and this was the most affordable place in the area that I could find on short notice. We had tentative plans to stay with family and they would have allowed us to cancel two days in advance. The gal that helped us at the front desk was friendly and they had a bag of sample goodies that came in handy for the trip. We had a king size room, the bed was comfy, but the blankets were a bit thin and the heater was a window unit that warmed the room but it was pretty dry air. We kept turning it on and off all night to balance the temp. When the heater was off the bathroom would get really cold, but it had a warming light so it would heat up fairly quick. The place is older and the carpet showed it, the closet shelves were a bit grey from time, not dirt, and the lights were kinda dim. We chose not to have room service daily but I noticed that there were not extra needed items (toilet paper, and kleenex) and we only had a 1/2 roll and box when we arrived.

We ate at 3 resturants in town, the Longbranch (Excellent), Ians? (I think) bakery/pizza, excellent chewy crust, and Mavericks (won't go back). I would stay at this place again, if need be, but I think I will look for a place up the road closer to Winter Park.

  • Liked — The price for the time of year
  • Disliked — Old Carpet

“"Kitchenette" description was deceiving”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 January 2008

We paid extra for a room with a kitchenette, thinking we could save money by cooking our own meals. Isn't a kitchenette a small kitchen? When we got to the room, there was a stove, sink, fridge and microwave, but no plates, pans, silverware or cooking utinsils. A call to the front desk supplied us with 2 ceramic mugs to use for cooking.

Although it was a holiday week, the place was pretty empty except for the room above us, where the occupants held folk dances in their ski boots each night. Couldn't management find another room for them?

The lighting was poor, the room dark. The hotel staff turns the heat down during the day so when you come back freezing from a day of skiing, it is impossible to warm up quickly unless you take a shower. There was no shortage of hot water!!!

  • Liked — The hot water
  • Disliked — The cost for what we didn't get
