I rated it very good overall, it wasn't real expensive, it was very clean, it was older, than some hotels, but still very good. Very roomy. This was off the beaten trail, yet easy to get to the mall, and we went to Coors Field, which wasn't hard to get to.

I stay at Candlewood Suites all over the country and had not stayed at this one for a while chosing to stay in a couple of others in the Denver area on my frequent trips to Denver. My first and second choices were full so I booked here......i quickly remembered why this was my last choice for Candlewood Suites in Denver. The general condition of the hotel is not dirty, just run down and in need of updates. The whole hotel smells of smoke, my room did not but everywhere else did. Carpets are worn and stained in the hallways. My room had an old style tv, most Candlewoods have gone to flat screens, this television looked and performed like it was 10 years old, bad color and poor audio. I had the misfortune of being in Denver when it was hot, the AC unit at full could only manage 73-74 degrees in the main room and at leasr two or three degrees in the bedroom. Maintenance came up to check it and told me the units were too old and small to work any better. Again, not a dump, rather a step below what I have come to expect from Candlewood Suites.

I was on a long road trip with a pet, so I was getting accustomed to staying at Candlewood Suites across the country due to their pet-friendly policy. Unfortunately, I have to say that this was the single worst experience of the whole trip. The hotel didn't have my reservation when I arrived, even after I gave them my email confirmation and reservation #. They only had 1 or 2 rooms left, 1 smoking and 1 non-smoking and, of course, the most expensive suite rooms available. I chose the non-smoking but I was obviously given the smoking room because the place stunk like an ashtray. When I called downstairs to request that I get the non-smoking, she said that someone just took it. Lovely. My clothes, my bag, everything smelled like cigarettes once I left! It was disgusting. On top of that, the towels in the bathroom were dirty and looked as if the maid didn't change them...just took dirty towels off the floor and folded them. The pillows looked used, all wrinkly like someone had just slept there.

They wouldn't even honor the rate that I had reserved - it was THEIR mistake, not mine! It was the middle of the night and I didn't have it in me to argue, so I just took what I could. Upon leaving, I felt that I had been taken advantage of and I vowed to find a different property to stay at if I ever went on another road trip again. I have definitely found other pet-friendly hotels that I will remember for next time.

This hotel is in a great location that is just minutes from everything. The general manager allowed me to check in a 11:00 am!!! The oops manager gave detailed directions on had to get to downtown golden. The customer service I received was the best I've had in a while. The room was spacious and had a kitten area that included a fridge, stove and microwave. Overall, this was a great stay with a great price!
