I want to preface this review by saying that there were good things and there were bad things about this hotel and that we had a dog with us so the room we stayed in may have been "dog approved" and that might change things a bit.
The Good:
The staff was excellent
The breakfast was good
Our room was clean (clean sheets and bathroom most importantly)
We didn't use it but the hot tub looked clean and nice
Normally that's all it takes to make me happy but I had issues with smells in this hotel.
The Bad:
They seem to have live-in residents on the lower floor on one side of the hotel (the side we stayed on of course) and those residents as well as possibly the staff are allowed to smoke in their rooms. The smoke wafts out of the basement and into the lobby and breakfast area and upstairs hallway which really bothered me. Our room was non-smoking but sometimes I could smell smoke by the door when going into the bathroom.
When we got to our room we opened the door and almost choked on the chemical carpet cleaner smell (this may be due to it being a dog room but I'm not sure). It actually burned my throat! We opened the window all the way (which had no screen) and turned on the fan to try to clear the air but after two days the smell was less but still there. We had to give our dog a bath when we got home because he smelled like it from laying on the floor.
There were also items that were definitely in disrepair which I normally would overlook but the smells were making me grumpy and made everthing seem worse...the bathtub was worn and discolored but they put a clean bath mat in it to cover it up, the fan in the bathroom was hanging by a wire, there was a hole in the back of the bathroom door, the sink dripped and was all discolored from the constant water, and the lampshade in the bedroom had burn marks.
Overall I wouldn't stay here again simply because of the smoking and chemical smells. It's a basic hotel and we did get a good price (we got the 2 nights, 2 pool passes and 2 dinners deal which when we subtracted out the dinners and pool the room was around $52/night). I would suggest that you try to get a price that isn't too much more at one of the many other hotels/motels that are in better repair, closer to downtown and don't allow indoor smoking.
