“Nice, quiet, place.”

This is a nice quaint little B & B. We didn't get to use the hot tub because we ran out of time. The bed in the King room was VERY comfortable and we enjoyed the individual sitting area that comes with this room. I didn't like that the curtain that hung above the airconditioner also covered the A/C. There was no way to close the curtain without covering it. The rooms seem to be Well Cleaned in spite of the 2 big dogs that were there. There was some dog hair on the floor, but we are dog lovers so that didn't bother us. Breakfast was good, but not what I would have chosen if at a restaurant. Breakfast is served at 8 am....a bit late for us, but we worked our plans around it so that we could eat before taking off. The inn keeper was a very gregarious man, very kind and friendly. He was very helpful in giving suggestions for restaurants. I felt safe and comfortable here.

  • Liked — Comfortable bed and clean bathroom!
  • Disliked — That curtain above the A/C!

“Mixed Feelings”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 March 2007

We stayed here during the 06-07 ski season. Our room was the King Station Room. We have mixed feelings about this inn. There were some things we liked and some things we didn't like.

The PROS: The bed was very big and extremely comfortable. The room had a pretty gas fireplace that worked well. The decor was nice and fitting to the era and theme of the inn. The breakfasts are prepared and served to you on a plate and were good. Guests have free run of the kitchen area and can help themselves to anything in the refrigerator. The location of the inn is within walking distance to shops and restaurants. There are many games, videos, and books available to guests in the common room. The inn has a hot tub.

The CONS:
1) The King Station Room is on the first floor, which is the same floor as the common areas. The walls seem to be a bit thin and from inside the room you can clearly hear all the guest activity going on in the common areas; so we found it to be noisy.

2) We were not satisfied with security. The King Station Room did not have a lock. This made us very uncomfortable because the room entrance is right off the common area and also because the main door to the house was unlocked all day long even when the innkeeper wasn't there one day.

3) The hot tub water seemed a little funky in my opinion. It was on the cloudy side. Also, the path leading out to the hot tub was very icy. The hot tub was broken down one day that we were there, but the innkeeper did fix it by the next day.

4) The innkeeper told us that breakfast is usually served at 8 a.m. Being skiers who like to be on the slopes first thing in the morning, this is too late for us. The innkeeper did make an exception for us and managed to serve us a little earlier, but we still felt like we were held up a bit in the morning.

5) This innkeeper seems to strictly adhere to his no-refund policy. Due to a forecast of a snowstorm, we needed to cancel one night's stay. Even though we had given notice a few days in advance and stayed the rest of our reservation, he refused to refund us any portion of the unused night. Yes, he does make his refund policy clear when you make your reservation, but he does not seem to be at all flexible with his policy. I know a lot of inns have similar refund policies, and perhaps that is just the risk one takes with staying at an inn as opposed to a major hotel chain. In any case, it's a risk we won't take again. We've learned our lesson: the next time we travel to an area where weather can easily cause a person to have to change travel plans, we will make our lodging arrangements at a major hotel chain where cancellations with a few days notice are not a problem.

“Better than AAA guides.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 February 2004

Although it's been several years since we were in Colorado, we enjoyed immensely our bedroom suite upstairs, with a small french window opening out with an unobstructed view down the main business district street, The owner served a wonderful "to order" breakfast, and the entire downstairs living room, dining room, and kitchen were available to guests. There was always a wonderful cake sitting on a glass covered pedestal cake dish on the coffee table in the living room. All you had to do was take a dish and serve yourself a piece. Furnishing were made from old time bellows and other mining machinery -- This one is under the radar of AAA guides, but it was a choice listed in the Colorado Tourism Guide. We visited in 1996 -- but we would like to go back there. If it's still in operation, it's worth looking up the phone number and calling. Reasonably priced, too! Signed, "Don't Get to Travel Near Enough!!"
