“Great Local's Secret!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 December 2007

First let me say that Loveland is not a resort. There are no flashy shops, coffee bars or hotels, but that is what makes it the perfect place to ski.

The variety of terrain is fabulous and the view from the top of chair 9 over ththe continental divide is spectacular. There is plenty of terrain for beginners and many runs for those that like a challenge. There are also great terrain parks, if that's what you are looking for.

Prices are the most reasonable in Colorado and there are barely ever lift lines.

At the bottom of the hill you will find a great, reasonably priced food court, ski shop and rental facility. There is also child care available - again, reasonably priced. Parking is free and there is a free shuttle between the Valley (where the ski school is located) and the Basin.

If you want to go pose in your new ski/board gear, this is not the place for you, but if you want a no frills ski hill with excellent terrain, great conditions and low prices - this is where you want to be.

the only downside is that if you are from out of town, the closest lodging is 12-15 miles away.

“Don't waste your money on Loveland”

Loveland was a very poor experience overall. The employees were rude, and unhelpful, nobody seemed to care. Trails were poorly marked, and cover was thin and rocky compared to nearby Copper Mountain where the coverage was superb. It does cost less for a lift ticket than other bigger resorts, but it is well worth it to drive right on by and spend a little more money for a far better experience. Also the rental department wasn't set up efficiently at Loveland, the rentals at Copper Mtn were much more modern, and they had a better selection. I'll never go back, my advice: drive right on by and go a little farther to have a much better time.

“Loving Loveland”

Just about the best value in Colorado skiing. Lift tickets are about half the price of the bigger resorts further west on I-70. The variety of terrain is terrific; if you want to get crazy on a double-black diamond, anything off lift 9 should keep you busy. One of the longest seasons in the state; they don't close this year until May. We skiied April 16, and they got 5 inches that day. Because it's right on the continental divide (Eisenhower Tunnel goes under the ski area) it can be pretty windy at times, especially on the north side of I-70. We bought our lift tickets and rented our equipment in Denver. We just showed up, parked, walked over to the lift, put on our skis, and had a great time all day. Never had to wait in line for the lift even once all day. Most people drive right by this area to pay twice the price and wait in lift lines all day. I hope they keep doing that so it stays uncrowded in the future!

people were rude--some lifts were closed but they didn't tell us until we rented everything and were ready to ski--customer service was unhelpful to out of town guests--not a great experience at all.

“Great skiers mountain”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 March 2006

Obviously Colorado is home to some of the best ski resorts in the world.Â

Loveland, may be one of Colorado's best kept secrets. It certainly isn't a true
resort, but that's part of the reason it's great.Â

There are no condos on the property, no Ben&Jerry's in the lodge, no Starbucks
beside the parking lot, and no promotional megaphones at the bottom of the
lifts. Rather, it's a quiet, down to earth, skiers mountain.

In comparison to other resorts, Loveland may be a bit windier and colder, but
not by much. Parking is great! Much better than any other resort I have been
to... ever.... anywhere. We parked, walked a couple steps, bought our lift
tickets, and skied. The walk from the slopes to the car may have been 20 yards,
at the most. Plus, the mountain is 45 minutes from Golden/Lakewood and 10
minutes from Silverthorne/Dillon. Like many CO mountains, it is right off the
interstate.

Prices of the lift tickets are great. Loveland has several deals and bargains.
Search for a ticket on craigslist or a coupon in the area and save half the cost
of the lift ticket. Most other ski resorts have done away with their
promotional lift ticket offers. The worst coupon I saw was for a $40 ticket.

The only beef I had with Loveland was that their trails were not marked as well
as I would have liked. Loveland reminded my of Squaw in Tahoe. It was big
(almost 100 trails) and wide open.Â

If your a beginner or intermediate, stay on chairs 2, 3, and possibly 8. Chair
9 had the best expert terrain.

The bar/restaurant/cafeteria was very nice. You could watch skiers tumble down
the double blacks from your warm seat in the lodge.

I would not spend 5 days skiing Loveland, but I will always spend at least one
day skiing Loveland on any trip to Summit County. It's a great skier's
mountain.
