“Small Rooms, Great Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 September 2010

For time share users (Wyndham owners or exchange users), this is a gem. Location at foot of 2nd Avenue is very convenient, within easy walking distance of all downtown attactions. Since it's a converted hotel, the rooms are small, but comfortably furnished and entirely adequate for the usual week-long stays. A few things would detract from longer stays; i.e., poor lighting for reading; connecting doors between units allow for too much noise from inconsiderate neighbors, and admit cooking smells from the adjacent unit. Also, the bathrooms are a bit dated, needing some attention to caulking and showers, and the small, cheap, low-height toilets ought to be replaced. Still, the location can't be beat, and the staff are friendly, accommodating, and helpful. This is a great property, and the only time share (to my knowledge) in Durango town. The PROs really outweigh the few CONs. A final note: while this site does not have a pool, guests have privileges for the Best Western pool just across the street.

“Small but nice!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 August 2010

The rooms are really small, but nice. The desk staff was more than helpful and pleasant. We did the Mesa Verde tour and it was worth every penny. It was an all day trip that included lunch and non stop conversation...much better than the ranger at the location who gave very little information. We skied at Purgatory the rest of our time there. The rooms are not as spacious as we are used to with Wyndham, but unless you are spending all your time in the unit, it is adequate for meal preparation (there is limited kitchenette, but I am a creative cook!) and sleeping. I would probably not recommend this place if you are large...space is limited. One of the nice things is that there is no sales office located on the premises, so NO sales pitch/update. We are owners in the Wyndham system and the updates are usually not pleasant. Walked around Durrango in the evening and attended the preview of "Cheap Ski Movie" and discovered I had met these folks in Denver! Go see the movie when it comes out...very funny. We were there, basically to ski, so we did not spend much time in town. Hot tub is outside and interesting when it snows. Laundry is not in the room, but outside the check in desk.

“The Wyndham Durango was the perfect stopping off point for Southern Colorado.”

My sister and I stayed at this condo, in a 1 br, for 5 nights and really enjoyed it. The room was nice and fully furnished. The staff at the Wyndham was very helpful and knowledgeable about the area.

“Convenient Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 July 2009

Most other Wyndham resorts have much larger rooms and are much nicer, but are located in the boonies. This is the exception. It is located two short blocks from the historic train station and the Main Street shopping district. Sure, Wyndham could have built a huge resort out of town, but that wouldn't be convenient for seeing Durango. As it is, you can easily walk everywhere interesting. I'm glad Wyndham has this resort. It is so convenient.

“Wyndham Durango a big disappointment!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 April 2009

We stayed here for one week. Although the room was clean, it was very hot (in April) with no way to control the temp other than opening the sliding door (which made it very noisy). Refrig was also noisy, ran constantly, and generated a lot of heat. Rooms above us had ceramic tile floors and we had to listen to constant screeching of the chairs.

Communications at the front desk and from the staff were extremely poor--we got a basket of goodies in our room with a note saying they're "complimentary," but when we asked for coffee for the next day, we were told, "You're expected to bring your own." We didn't know where to take our trash nor what entrance to use to carry our things in. They didn't tell us.

The tour guide at the front desk was a joke! She promotes only those activities that benefit HER--she gets a commission from certain vendors. She gave us a card that said 60% off everything in one store--when we tried to use it for a $60 wall hanging, the seller laughed and said, "Oh no, but I can give you 10%."

The guide was VERY unprepared for the "Historic Walking Tour," which costs $10 a person. She pointed out the Fiornini Building and when a man asked, "Now WHO was Fiornini?" she said, "I don't know--read your handout." We found the same handout on the Internet. Part of the "Historic" tour was telling us about HER former tour hut downtown and a modern soda bottling company. Give me a break!!! It was a total waste of time! Other guests on the tour made similar comments. It really soured us on the hotel in general and our overall stay.

Staff at the front desk would not accept comments or complaints. They said, "We have no complaint department here. You have to write a review online."

We've had better communications and a more restful stay at Motel 6!
