Overall, I would say we enjoyed out stay at this hotel, even with a few glitches. The hotel has a very inviting lobby that makes you feel like you have stepped back in time. The check-in process was very easy and the front desk attendant was very friendly. The room was comfortable and had all the amenities and fixtures of a mid-scale hotel.
As other reviews have stated, the elevator was a bit tricky to enter, especially with luggage, but it was an authentic, turn-of-the-century piece that added charm to the experience.
The two negatives of the stay were the breakfast and the hotel's noise issues. As other reviews have stated, the breakfast was a bit disappointing. The selection was very poor and there seemed to be a problem replenishing items as they got low. We came down to breakfast around 9am and there was nothing left. There were only 4 or 5 others having breakfast at that time so the breakfast attendant couldn't have been that busy. I ended up having to go to Starbucks across the street just to get some coffee.
The other negative was the noise. Because this building is quite old, the walls are paper-thin. In addition, the door to our room wasn't a standard hotel-style door. It was a simple bedroom door that had a deadbolt added to it. Because of this, you could hear every single little noise coming from the hallway. Needless to say, we didn't get much sleep during our stay.
In summary, this hotel has a lot of charm and the staff is friendly. Just don't expect much for breakfast and bring your earplugs for sleeping.
