“Very nice, but choose location of unit wisely.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 September 2009

We have had the pleasure of staying at Silverpick several times over the years and it is a joy to return. The only caution is choosing the room/condo carefully. We once were placed in a one bedroom condo on the South side of the complex, with windows and deck facing the parking lot (although we were told the view was of the San Juan National Forest - more cars than trees). We were disturbed all night with car headlights shining directly into the bedroom. Units on the East side get a fair bit of highway noise. Try to choose a unit in the back (West), with views to the North for both the best views and least noise. The West-view units are also very quiet once you get away from the end unit at the parking lot, but the view is that of the forest, not mountains. When I travel to the mountains, I like to have that mountain view so have learned to ask for it.

Otherwise a great location, excellent on-site restaurant and close to events at the ski resort, like Music in the Mountains. Great quality for the money.

“Perfect mountain gem.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 July 2009

Our condo was nicely furnished and had all the comforts of home. lots of trails leave right from the lodge. Off the road and very much in the trees and mountains. Only one mile to the ski resort, close enough but far enough to not be in the noise and traffic. The Sow's Ear restaraunt on site is excellent. We would highly reccommend this to anyone wanting to get away to the mountains.

I had the privilege of taking a youth group of 44 Jr. High kids up to Durango for a summer retreat...What a blast! The Lodge not only accommodated, but truly exceeded all of our expectations. The lodge is clean, the staff is friendly, I would highly recommend to any and all!

“Great for Family Reunions”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 July 2007

We just held a three generation family reunion at the Silver Pick Lodge for 3 days and it was fantastic. We had the entire Lodge and several of the condos for our group of over 60 people ranging in age from 2 months to mid 50's. With the rental of the whole Lodge we got the use of the Columbine room and the kitchen which had all of the plates and kitchen accomodations for the whole group. The 2 hot tubs and the spas were put to good use. The rooms were clean, modern and well kept. Plenty of linens and towel for the crowd. The kids had a great time using the game room. There are a lot of summer time activities in the vicinity including the Alpine Slide and other activities at Durango Mountain Resort, white water rafting and shopping in Durango, 4 wheel drive trails all around, hiking trails, the Lodge's playground for the kids and the nightly bear sightings. The staff was wonderful to deal with. I would recommend it to anyone for a family reunion adventure. We hope to return in a few years.

“Fantastic stay on a beautiful mountain”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 April 2007

Had a fantastic stay at the Silverpick and can't recommend it highly enough. It exceeded expectations in all quarters. The staff were friendly, welcoming and helpful throughout our three week stay. The condo we rented was spacious, clean and incredible value - well equipped kitchen, huge beds and ample living space (the highlight was definitely the open log fire). The lodge itself was cosy and welcoming (more roaring fires!), with plenty of quirky features, a great library and a classy (and quiet) spa area with hot tubs, sauna and steam room - a welcome relief after a hard day on the slopes.

The lodge runs an "on demand" shuttle service to the ski slopes (only a mile away) which was great - no waiting on a timetable! And the slopes themselves were great - plenty of variety, lots of space and hardly any queues (even at weekends). It's developed enough to be easy and comfortable for snow bunnies of all levels, but retains a friendliness and charm that you don't get in bigger resorts.

Must also mention the Sow's Ear restaurant at the Silverpick which was the best place we ate during our month in the US. A great atmosphere and friendly staff who couldn't have made us feel more welcome. The food in both the restaurant and bar were great - fresh, interesting and well prepared by chefs that seem to be really passionate about what they do. The restaurant claims to have the best steak on the mountain, and I can't argue with them. And, the caesar salad is the best I have ever tasted.

The Silverpick is a convenient and good-value place to stay for skiers/snowboarders. But more than that, it has genuine character and warmth.

  • Liked — The welcoming and friendly atmosphere
  • Disliked — For longer stays, it can be a bit isolated without a car
