My partner and I stayed here at the very start and again at the very end of our return road trip from Denver to Vegas.
My previous experience of hostelling (around the UK, Europe, southern Africa and New Zealand) naively lead me to assume that this place would be a cosmopolitan mix of back-packers and "Rough Guide" type travellers - how wrong was I ???
Upon arriving, one look around will show you that this is more like a bail-hostel or homeless shelter rather that a travellers rest!
The reception staff were really polite and helpful and, although there was a clerical error with our booking (pre-booked online) it was soon sorted out.
They didn't mind that we are a same-sex couple (unless they assumed we are sisters??) so no problem there.
Our room was not ensuite, so we had to walk a few metres down the corridor to use the toilet and seperate shower. There is no air conditioning, obviously. The room was large and there was a double bed and a chest of drawers but no other furniture. There was a tv with remote control (although the control was very dirty) but there were many channels to choose from and the picture was clear.
At this point, I should mention that there are a few restaurants and bars nearby. Although the noise from these places didn't disturb us, I think it's worth mentioning as it adds to the atmosphere of the general area. My partner and I didn't feel safe at all, either for our selves or our possessions when we left the room. Maybe I've been watching too much CSI, but we felt scared and vulnerable.
You have to pay a deposit for each key and the towels, which I think is fare. They will give you a bar of soap (if you look grubby?) and staff are more than happy to give you directions if you need them or general advice.
They have hot/cold drink vending machines in the foyer (prices very good) plus I noticed a few boxes of free donuts (from a charity?) available for people to help themselves to, which I thought was kind.
There is no car park as such, but plenty of metred parking outside. On our final night there, the staff kindly let me park our hire car on the staff car park out the back.
There is also a very handy grocery store next door, although it closes quite early.
It is very near to Denver Art Museum, which is amazing.
Places like this break my heart - the place has obviously seen better days but years of neglect have turned it into a shabby relic. I'm sure the cleaning staff do their best but you can't clean coal, no matter how hard you scrub.
If you look as tough as the other people staying there, I'm sure you'll be fine but, for me personally, I couldn't wait to leave.

Thank you for your response and mentioning the positive elements in our staff, hotel, and service, as well as the local flair in the neighborhood. We are currently in a muli-year remodel to put on a new face. I am sorry for the negative things that you encountered, and we are working on those things to become the premiere Hostel/Hotel in the Denver region. Thank you again for your review.
