“Bad Experience”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 August 2010

As a result of some work being done at our home, my boys decided to stay at this hotel (at their own hard earned expense) versus sleeping on the floor at the neighbors house. During their stay, they were locked out of their room (bolt latch on inside of door flipped closed after shutting the door therefore they were unable to re-enter their room). They informed the front desk at which time they were told there was no maintenance man on site at the time and they would have to wait until 5:30 in the morning. At 5:30, no maintenance man arrived. The boys again contact the front desk and were told that the maintenance man would not arrive until 9:00 am. The boys were unable to enter their room and retrieve their belongings until after 9:00 am. Although the staff put them in a room across the hall, they were unable to enjoy their stay as they could not access their swimsuites, sony playstation, pajamas, etc. When I called the hotel to inquire as to whether or not they would refund some of the boys money, I was told to leave a voice message for the Manager as he was not in. I left a voice message and my call was returned promptly however I was told by the Manager explicitly, "I already gave them two rooms for the price of one." He also accused my boys of slamming the door therefore causing them to be locked out. This is an unacceptable answer and although my boys were given another room to stay in, they were greatly inconvenienced during their stay. I would not recommend this hotel and will never occupy a Comfort Suites again, not because of the inconvenience, but because of the way the way the hotel manager refused to negotiate a discount for the boys inconvenience and his accusatory tone. He even went so far as to try to describe a door latch to me like I was some kind of idiot.

“AN ABSOLUTE PIT!”

We were in Denver and wanted to be closer to Colorado Springs, so we reserved this hotel for 3 nights. When we walked into the lobby, it was dark. When we walked down the hallway to the room, it was dark and worn. When we got to the room there was a big cigarette hole in the comforter of a supposedly non-smoking hotel, there was a brown smear on the wall of the bathroom, there was something smeared across the bedside tables and the air conditioner didn't work. I called the front desk to see if we would be charged if we checked out and the desk clerk said yes because they have a 24-hr cancellation penalty. I told her to cancel the rest of the week and my husband went down to see if he could get us out of there. He couldn't, but we were moved to a different room where the air conditioner actually worked. Of course, there was a stain on the sheets in this room. I left the first room a lot cleaner than I found it and couldn't bear to sit or stand on anything in either room. It's a PIT. Do not stay there.!!

I would suggest you go one exit farther south and stay at the Hampton Inn. It was wonderful in every way.

“Not what we expected”

We have stayed at many Comfort Suites, so we were surprised by this location in North Colorado Springs. The hotel and the rooms are, well....cheap looking and uninviting. The breakfast was very basic with not much variety and the pool was disgusting by my standards. It was dark, smelled of mold, dirty looking and had hard water stains everywhere from lack of upkeep. Honestly, I thought the pool had been closed for weeks until I saw some kids in it. The staff wasn't unfriendly, but they weren't all that interested either. On the flip side, the beds weren't bad and the water pressure in the showers is great. They are in a nice location with easy access to shopping, places to eat and the highway. We will be back again in May, but will seek out other suite locations for the length we will be staying.

“Mixed Results”

We used TripAdvisor to find this hotel and were aware of what other reviewers had said. What we found was a mixed bag.

The indoor-outdoor pool was, in fact, cold as one of the reviewers had noted but it didn't keep kids from playing in it all day long. The water slide on the indoor pool was great fun and our kids used for hours.

The suite in which we stayed was a little disappointing. As one other reviewer noted, the two-queen configuration is a bit cramped. Threatening signs in the room telling you that the hotel inventories all of its towels daily contributed to a bad tone. The curtains, that are heavy enough to darken the room, were mounted in a way that makes this impossible so the outside lights shown in all night. The mattresses were quite uncomfortable.

The location is fine. There are lots of decent restaurants around the area and easy access to I-25.

The hotel cancellation policy is 4:00 PM the day before arrival. We came in late on our first night and, because of the policy, were "stuck" with our choice for a second night. We moved hotels after our second night, having found a Marriott property that was much nicer but charging the same rate as the Comfort Suites.

As another reviewer noted, the Comfort Suites designation for this property is a bit misleading. Two nights ago, I was in a suite in a Comfort Suites in a different town and the contrast between the two properties was striking. This week's property was more upscale and more in line of what I expect the Comfort Suite brand to be.

I am still recommending the Colorado Springs hotel but conditionally. If you are there with elementary school-aged kids, they will probably have a good time. If were there on business travel, it would probably not be my first choice.
