“Horrible - will no longer be a regular here!”

This building used to be the Holiday Inn Express, and we've been staying here every summer for 9 years to attend an annual reunion, with pretty good experiences each time. Now that it's a Quality Inn, things are VERY different! Our group's new name for it is the Buggety Inn. As in bed bugs. One of the group staying on the 3rd floor found a bed bug infestation on the last morning of his stay. Days later, we are still in the process of cleaning absolutely everything we had with us, to try to keep from bringing any "hitchhikers" into our home.

Worst of all, this was just the icing on the cake of a horrible experience here. The pool was "closed for maintenance" for the entire 6 days, and none of the desk staff had any idea when it might be open again. The room cleaning was poor quality (a peanut we spotted on the floor just under the bed remained in place for our entire stay...and it wasn't our peanut). The fire alarm went off one morning and the desk clerk just pressed "reset" and was then very surprised when the fire department showed up. They were able to tell that it was a false alarm, fortunately, but because she pressed "reset" instead of "silent" they couldn't tell what caused it since her action wiped the codes it would have given them. That tells me that the front desk staff has not had even basic emergency training. And while the police evacuating the hotel for about 7 hours on 7/16/11 to send in a SWAT team to capture a wanted felon was definitely not the hotel's fault, the fact that they never contacted their guests to A) let us know to stay away and B) let us know when it was safe to return is definitely a sign of the kind of poor safety training and customer service you can expect from this place.

Stay away....we plan to. We won't be staying here again.

“Lots of broken things”

I would not reccommend this hotel. First room we checked into the frig wasn't working so we asked to move, they kindly moved us next door. The frig worked, but late in the evening we discovered the a/c did not work properly (had to turn it down to 60 to get it to actually cool the room!). In the morning we discovered the coffee machine wouldn't work. When I mentioned all this on check out the front desk girl just sort of giggled and said "it's an old hotel, nothing works here". No, I'm sorry or whatever!

“Worst Hotel I have ever stayed at,makes me question Holiday Inn Brand”

I am amazed by the positive reviews and would strongly question if they were left by real travelers with no affiliation. First we chose this hotel because it was about half way between Denver and Colorado Springs about $20 less than comparable hotels, just off the highway so it is a good location and I think our room was about $60 a night but the standards of a $40 a night Motel.
First we arrived very late because we drove in from Wyoming, the air wasn't working in our room and when we called the desk to change us rooms it took them so long to get back to us (he wanted to see if it was fixable) my kids fell asleep so we told them never mind. None of us slept well because it was hot and uncomfortable. In the morning we started noticing the filth. First my daughter pointed out the food wrappers that had fallen behind the mattress when she was looking for her hair tie appeared they either didn't change the sheets or just didn't bother picking it up when they made the bed. Then when we started moving around noticed the stains all over the bedspreads (super gross). When we went in the bathroom we noticed the drain plug was pulled out and was covered in moldy ick, there were hairs in the tub and on the floor (eww). Since we were on a extended vacation on a tight budget and the room was already paid for we discussed it and decided we already unknowingly slept there so we would tough it out.
Then it got worse, the first morning we went to breakfast and the girl working was very pleasant and helpful offering us a tray to bring back to our room because the eating area was so small (and full of course) there was no where for us to sit. But on the second day we didn't sleep well again, got no wake-up call, and were running late for breakfast so I went down to get my food and she was already packing it up 15 minutes early, I hurried grabbed somethings because again there was no where to sit, and sent my daughter back down. She was very rude to my daughter when she asked for a cinnamon roll she was boxing up, she was told "sorry breakfast is over!" When we left a little while later we seen her eating cinnamon rolls out of the Holiday Inn box with what must have been her bf/husband(?). Finally my kids wouldn't even swim in the pool it was so filthy you could see a oil sheen on the water. The third night we had a much better stay at a neighboring hotel for about $20 more.

“Mediocre At Best”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 July 2010

We stayed one night at the Castle Rock Holiday Inn Express. There is a non-smoking policy for the rooms that we chose, but when we entered one room it smelled heavily of cigarette smoke. I immediately called the front desk to let them know that it smelled and we were not responsible, as there is a $250 charge if one smokes in a non-smoking room. We had adjoining rooms as we were traveling with two young children and a teen. The beds were horrible...hard as rocks. The in-room fridge did not ever get cold. The room was shabby, with stained carpeting and the room itself was not very clean. Overall, the hotel was quiet and the staff was very nice. I don't think we'd stay again, but we got what we paid for: a night's lodging in a lower budget hotel.

“Enormous room, terrific value, great place to stay”

Stayed overnight here on trip from New Mexico to Denver. Excellent location close to highway. Room was spacious. Three bed room accommodated our family of four comfortably. Staff was efficient and friendly including the housekeeping staff who didn't hesitate to help with our luggage. Great place to stay. Continental breakfast was fine. Would definitely stay there again.
