I recently spent four nights at the Omni Interlocken Resort in Bloomfield, CO. I had business work in Boulder, CO, which turned out to be a twenty minute drive up Highway 36 (located adjacent to the hotel). The hotel is impressive. It is designed on a grand scale, with a Colorado mountain motif. The lobby has huge ceilings, there is a welcoming fire place with plenty of space to relax and/or meet with people. Overall, it plays the role it is designed to play--impress you and let you know this is a nice resort. I arrived late on a Sunday, but the bar restaurant was open. The food was excellent, and the prices were surprisingly reasonable (about 20 dollars for burger, fries and a drink). It was very low-key, which for me was a plus, but that might be due to it being a Sunday evening.
The rooms are enormous. The huge king size bed was almost overwhelming, but it was very comfortable. They also had a foam pillow in the room, which was great. I am not sure why feather pillows are the rage nowadays, but I prefer a firm foam pillow, which was there without having to call down to the front desk. The amenities are very nice, and the view I had of the front range mountains was spectacular--try for a West-facing room on a high floor for an amazing Rocky Mountain treat. One down side to the room was the fact there were very few outlets--I only found one in the room area. If you want to use your phone as an alarm and charge at the same time, it needs to be either in the bathroom or at the desk. another down side was the sporadic and sub-par internet access via WiFi. They charge ~ $10 / day for access, which is free if you sign up for their loyalty program. From my experience, it is in no way worth $10 a day, but for free, I took what I could get. They really need to address this issue if they intend to charge guests what I consider too high of a fee.
The room was clean, and the bathroom was what you would expect from a higher-end hotel. I had no complaints. Also, if you sign up for the loyalty program, they will iron two of your shirts for free--I took advantage of the offer, and I really appreciated it. They will also shine your shoes free of charge, and returning members of the loyalty program receive a complementary beverage delivered to your room. Out of all the hotels I have stayed, the Omni stands out as having the best rewards program that can be appreciated immediately. First time members qualify for many of the extras, which is a great idea.
Overall, I was very pleasantly surprised at how nice the hotel was. It's location is in between Denver and Boulder on the major connecting highway between the two towns, so if you want to be in the town you are working, this may not be the place for you. For me, it worked out really well. Finally, the staff is almost over the top in their efforts to serve their guests. I really appreciated their consideration. If I am back in Colorado on business, I will stay at this hotel again. I really enjoyed it.
Room Tip: Request a high floor with a view of the mountains.
