“Great location and very affordable”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 December 2010

This was the cheapest lodging we could find in Breckenridge - for less than $100 a night in early December (with ResortQuest). We picked it because of it's great location right alongside downtown Breck and across from the ski lift. We were traveling for a meeting and needed something cheap and easy - and this was a good fit. We stayed in a hotel room with 2 queen beds. It was pretty small, and the decor is a little older. But, for the rate, I couldn't find a comparable hotel that cheap and in as a good a location in any city. Our room would be a great place for friends traveling to Breck to spend the whole time skiing, and playing around downtown. I have stayed in other River Mountain Lodge condos that are more spacious and would be good for families traveling on the cheap aswell.

Unlike some of the other travelers, we found this very quiet. But, it was a quiet time of year. We enjoyed hearing the river flow by our window at night.

“Noise issues are a SERIOUS problem.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 July 2010

Location is perfect - just a few steps to the heart of Main Street and a few blocks to the gondola. The rooms are okay...an odd maze of inter-connecting units, making it feel much more like a hotel than a condominium complex. Staff is nice, but the noise -- both inside and outside of the hotel -- is insane. Rooms along the street are crazy noisy, so don't plan on opening any windows or sitting on the patio for a relaxing moment or two. Rooms along the creek are likely fine. The walls are very thin, so you can hear EVERY conversation in the halls (again, more like a hotel than a condo). Parents left 3 days early.

“Don't plan on getting any sleep”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 March 2010

I appreciate a value and I got a good rate. But after two sleepless nights, I have never been happier to check out of a place and go home. The building must be made of cardboard as there are inexplicable noises from all sides - anybody walking in the hall, and kid screaming anywhere (and there are a lot), the thumping from the rooms next door, the footsteps from anybody above, showers and toilets used anywhere in the vicinity. Finally the very uncofortable bed with thin sheets and linnens. I also swear I was being bitten by something but am not sure if it were real or just creepy crawlies due to my being awake all night. Even a kid of about 5 was complaining to his parents in the hottub about their noisy neighbors.

Beyond the sleepless nights (and I am not a light sleeper and was very tired after some great skiing), the towel and turn down service were non existent. I had to go to the front desk to get towels for the 2nd day as there were only two in the room period. Oh and checkout is at 10am and check in is at 4pm. When asked if I could have an 11pm checkout, the front desk said I had to check with housekeeping they cannot make that decision. The housekeeping lady said I could stay till 11 but had to get right out as somebody was checking in. The incomming party must have privilages as my math tells me at 11 there should be a 5 hour spread.

On the positive there is decent water pressure and the bar downstairs is cheap and the free parking is on sigt. That aside and a decent town location I could not reccomend this location to anybody except starving college students looking for a crash pad.

Granted too I stayed in the "hotel room" vs. the Condo Rooms - so noise factors asside, the condo may be more livable. For me, I am happy to go home and get some R&R.

Thank you for taking the time to send us your thoughts about your recent stay in Breckenridge. At ResortQuest, we strive to make your stay comfortable and pride ourselves on our properties having the comforts of home. We do have strict policies on after hours noise, because, as you say, most of our guests are very tired after an epic day on the nearby slopes. Our housekeeping department works tirelessly to ensure that the rooms are ready for each new guest arrival and that there are ample fresh linens and bedding. River Mountain Lodge is located in the center of Town within walking distance to Gondola and mere steps to shuttle pick up and is extremely affordable for families. ResortQuest offers many properties and one may suit your specific needs for a future visit. Thank you again for taking the time to write a review as the feedback helps us to continue to improve our service to you.

“Beware of leaving anything valuable in your room”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 March 2010

I'll start with the good. Great location. 1 block to Main Street and across the street from 4 O clock run. Access to skiing is great from the hotel. Nice that they have a heated outdoor pool and hottubs. However the water in the hottub by the pool was disgusting- greenish puke color (not quite what you hope to be relaxing in- we just hoped there was enough chlorine in there to kill whatever was making the water look like that!!). Pool water was clean and pool was a nice temp.

Bar/ Lounge has good drink deals and is a fun, relaxed atmosphere.

Now for the bad. When we checked out, I accidentally left my purse in the room (I had put it behind a chair in the room and rarely carry a purse, so I just simply forgot about it). The hotel had my husband's cell # which they did try to call, however, he didn't check his messages all day. I figured out the next day that I didn't have my purse and called the hotel. They said they would send it to me the next day UPS (I paid the UPS fee, which I would expect). I had 4 $100 bills in a pocket in my purse and those were missing when I got it back. Quite honestly, I fully expected the cash to be missing. In fact, I told 5 or 6 friends about leaving my purse there (they knew I had the cash in there because they thought it was funny that I was saving this money from a trip I had taken to Vegas because I was convinced the money was lucky, so I wasn't spending it) and told all of them that I would be shocked but incredibly pleasantly surprised if the cash was still there. Had the cash been in there, I would be writing the opposite of this on tripadvisor- I would be singing the hotel's praises about how incredibly honest all of their staff is.

I called the hotel immediately to let them know that my cash was missing. I spoke with Jessie at the front desk, who sounded really upset about it. More than once he said how they are a small hotel with not many employees and he was really upset thinking someone there might be that dishonest. He said that he would have a manager get in touch with me. A manager did call the next day and she pretty much said that it was definitely not one of her employees, that she fully trusts them all. And that it must be the person who packed it up at the UPS store. The UPS store though has a security camera and they can prove that it wasn't them.

I fully realize that it was pretty stupid of me to leave my purse at the hotel. Okay really stupid even :) But, I stay at a lot of hotels, and often leave valuables in my room (again probably stupid, but honestly I've never had anything stolen.) I will say that I am happy that whoever it was, only stole my cash. I also had a camera in there with probably 500 photos on it that I hadn't downloaded to my computer. I would have been far more upset if my camera was what was missing. Cash can be replaced, but the photos can't.

My biggest issue with this situation is the fact that the manager I spoke with was so nonchalant about the situation and was so adamant that her employees are all very honest and she trusts them all. I know if I were an employee of a hotel and I stole something from a guest, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't admit to it. Pretty good way to get yourself fired and be out of a job. But as this manager, I would think she ought to be concerned that she has someone dishonest working for her.

Who knows though, maybe she figures most guests aren't stupid enough to leave $400 in cash sitting wide open in their purse? So, maybe she figures it isn't something she'll have to worry about too often. And even if it happens again to someone else, she will again just deny that it could have possibly been one of her employees.

Sorry for the long review, I just wanted to give all the details about what happened to me and my experience at River Mountain Lodge. This was my second stay there and I have to admit, prior to this experience, I would have come back over and over (mostly because of the easy ski-in and easy access to town). After the way this was handled though by management, I could never stay here again. I would have thought the least I would get was an apology. I wasn't expecting to get my money back or even get a night of my stay comped, but an apology would have been nice. But I guess that would be admitting wrong doing of one of your employees.

I'd say, stay here because of the location. But be sure not to leave anything valuable in your room, especially cash. I would be worried about anything valuable personally, only because I think once someone starts stealing, they may not stop at just cash next time.

“WE KEEP COMING BACK”

After reading previous reviews had to write one...we have been staying here for 3 years and have always been happy. Great location (end of 4 o'clock run) and right on shuttle stop. It is always clean and noise has never been an issue! We stay in one of the same 2 condos each visit and both are updated and very clean. After numerous happy stays we will keep coming back!
