“Excellent.....”

Probably like many of you, I surfed TA for some time to pick a hotel for Breck. Well, my wife and I just returned from our Feb 1-5 trip and staying at the MTL was the perfect decision.

Our main search criteria was location. We wanted equal access to town as the slopes and the MTL is just that. I have read reviews about the LONG walk to the gondola. Honestly, it is 5 minutes....if you don't like the stairs to the tunnel, then just cross the street and walk across a parking lot. I usually carried my snowboard and my wife's skis since walking in snowboard boots is much easier....absolutely a non-issue. As for skiing back, the 4 O;clock runs literally takes you to the back door of the resort. The town is about a 2 block walk, which we made every night.

We did not use the shuttle service at all since we had a rental car. I drove into town to bring back breakfast one morning and it took longer for the KAVA cafe (awesome!) to make our donuts, then the rest of the trip.

We booked a 1 bedroom condo (non-studio) and ended up in corner room 5109 which was 2 bed and 2 bath. The room was incredible! Honestly, I have no idea what could have been improved upon and since this resort was half the price of others, the decision was perfect. We could have literally lived in our condo long term. The kitchen was huge, large kitchen table, flat screen, fireplace and two massive bathrooms. There was also a smaller flatscreen in the master bedroom.

The staff was very helpful and friendly, but we honestly didn't ask for much assistance. Actually, after check-in I think I called them once for breakfast advise.

In the main pool area, there are two hot tubs with changing rooms and bathrooms which were very convenient.

All in all, we travel all over and this place was incredible. I will say that it is much more condo living than hotel living. There is not a restaurant or bar on site, but the town is very close with everything you can imagine.

Enjoy!

“Awesome family vacation in the mountains!”

Our stay in the mountains was perfect! The kitchen was nicely appointed, big table, roomy family room, master suite was really spacious and the heated garage was a bonus because we got snow every night. And the views out the windows are terrific. The hotel staff couldn't have been more helpful or pleasant. Great courtesy shuttle takes you into town and picks you back up...but its just a short walk. You can ski right to your townhouse. There's a nice little market just down the road to stock up on supplies...you do need everything from coffee filters to napkins. The town of Breckenridge is adorable! We will be back.

Room Tip: We didn't know that some units have different configurations of beds...wish we had asked for the...

“Winter Wonderland”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2012

I cannot fault anything with the beautiful Mountain Thunder Lodge in Breckenridge Colorado. We booked a two bedroom town home and what a treat it was. Our very own snow cabin which was just beautiful inside and out. A fire place was central to the living area and where we drank wine, hot chocolate and played board games at night. Outside our condo we had the hot tubs and the picturesque Rockies and pine trees covered in snow. The condo itself was decorated nicely and warm and cosy with comfortable beds and a new full kitchen complete with refridgerator, oven and hot plates.

The staff were amazing, happy to help in which ever way they could. A free shuttle (tips optional) took you into the main strip of the beautiful little town. It was a short walk in, if you didn't want to walk in the snow there was a shuttle. It could even pick you up from places in town too.

Breckenridge itself is a magical place. We were in late November so there was Christmas lights and decorations everywhere. It truly felt like a winter wonderland. There were great little shops, eateries and bars along the main road. We just walked around and basically tried out a range of places, all were great!

Take a short walk to the free gondola ride and check out Peak 8. Even if your not skiing or snowboarding you can sit up at the bar and restaurant and people watch and take in your surroundings. They have the best hot chocolates! There is so much to do in the town, you'll never be bored.

I can't wait to get back to Breck and Colorado and I would always stay here! It's a long way from Australia but definitely worth it.

Room Tip: We chose a Two bedroom Townome and there was 4 of us. Plenty of space with a pull out sofa in front...

I booked the hotel room based on the price compared with other hotels. I paid for the hotel up front and then after my trip I found a charge for 23 dollars. I call them up and find out that they have a mandatory "resort fee" of 20 dollars that is charged after check out. I looked on the website and found the fee after clicking on a small link that said "Lodging terms and conditions". What the hell is a resort fee you ask? Apparently you have to pay for the amenities which we never used separately (I'm sure next year we'll see a toilet flushing fee). Looks like Thunder Mountain Lodge has joined up with the other shady companies that try to make money by charging hidden fees. The hotel was nice but I would never stay again based on principle.

Room Tip: Stay somewhere else that is honest to you up front.

“Nice place, good location, great shuttle service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 January 2012

The two bedroom unit we got (#701) was more nicely decorated than the ones in the reviewer's photos. We had a king in the master bedroom and two twins in the second bedroom. Master bed was comfortable. Bath spacious. Wonderful gas fireplace!!! Used it a lot! Cozy furnishings. Really appreciated the humidifiers and the foot massager! This unit needs some "real" lamps in the living room. The mini lamps' shades are showing their age, one lamp had no bulb, and there wasn't enough light in there to read. But that was minor. Overall the place was very nice. The shuttle into town was fantastic. You call them and they come pick you up and take you wherever you want to go. Then you call for pick up. It was super convenient. Keep in mind when choosing where to stay: if you stay up on the mountain like One Ski Hill Place, it's at higher elevation. Thunder Mountain is lower and better sleeping atmosphere to avoid altitude sickness for lowlanders. The gondola made it super easy to get up to the skiing area. Highly recommend renting your gear up on the mountain and having them store them for you. You get a 20% off coupon for ski rental at the Thunder Mountain desk.
