“Convenient and Quirky”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

After a conference in Denver, I stayed in Boulder a few extra days to do some hiking. I stayed in this hotel for the same reason in March 2010, and I returned to it for its convenience. From my room, I could easily walk to a pizza joint and a beer store - just about all a hiker needs! The trail heads I drove to from the hotel were just three miles away. I also appreciated the free Internet service, free parking and free (albeit skimpy) breakfast. The next time I visit Boulder, I'll stay here again.

“Unique, great location and large rooms A+”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 November 2011

After reading a few ridiculous criticisms on TA we ignored the whiners and came anyway. Actually we might have come b.c. of the bad reviews.

This is a wonderful, historic hotel in a perfect location and an excellent value. Where others claimed the place needed "updated decor" we discovered antiques and unique furniture imported from Europe! Our room was large, clean and we looked out on trees. The bathroom was spotless and we joked about how a small chip we noticed in the countertop would make excellent fodder for those people who complain about every little detail on TA.

This hotel is located on a dead end street and the bike path. You can walk to a great natural food store, the famous Dark Horse Saloon and lots of other restaurants. You can walk or hop a bus to the Hill or Pearl Street. The university is right across the street. There is an indoor pool we never got a chance to swim in. I would love to stay longer and for around $60/night you could!

This hotel is a great resource for Boulder because it is reasonably priced. I just hope those who think they're important because they criticize other people's business's haven't done any damage to this treasure. If you like a generic Hotel 8 on the side of the highway there are plenty of those in this world. But for those who thrill at finding an inexpensive and unique gem this is your kind of place. Don't miss the varnished wood lobby and massive polished stone globe.

When it snowed the friendly staff loaned me their broom. Don't believe everything you read, especially on Trip Advisor where people love to play the critic. I have lots of theories on why people say bad things about good businesses including: They don't get out much, are tired from traveling and really just wish they were home, the self importance theory, they think they should balance positive with negative, they are genuinely miserable nitpickers, they forgot the old adage if you have nothing good to say, say nothing, they are jealous of other people's success. I told the concierge that we came because of the bad reviews and he said he doesn't pay any attention to them at all - wise man - you shouldn't either.

“Poor in 2010, worse in 2011”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 November 2011

Only stayed here because of softball tournament. The first year it was in somewhat sad shape, with plumbing and A/C issues in some of the rooms. Not the end of the world. This year it had become more tattered, and I couldn't figure out why they would let it go downhill like that. Being an early riser, I was out in the lobby reading one morning and got my answer. A presentation being given by one gentleman to a few others on "how to take a dead or dying hotel and make money on it without fixing it up by creating student housing." Not the fault of the students that live here. Spend a little more or drive a little further, but avoid this one.

“It was pretty much what we expected”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 October 2011

We liked the convenient location, although difficult to locate initially, and we liked the price. We had pretty low expectations and this hotel met those. It was relatively "clean" but in desperate need of repair and an update in its decor. The guy at the desk was very efficient and helpful. The breakfast was okay but it was FREE. We didn't have any real complaints other than some road noise and the noise from people coming in and out of the hotel via the exit door that was located 3 feet from our hotel room.We probably won't stay here again.

Room Tip: I would avoid getting a room by one of the exits.

“AKA The Broker INn - STAY AWAY”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 October 2011

Were do I start. Every each of the property is filthy. Rooms are not cleaned properly, if at all (witnessed by spider webs). Bathrooms are downright scary. Tub flogged, faucet malfunctioning, toilet seat broken. I appears they have just quit trying. Though I don't think they ever tried hard to begin with. This could actually be a cool place if some cared. It should be shutdown, sold and either demolished or completely redone. Other than that, it was great.

Room Tip: Go somewhere else
