“Off The Beaten Path”

We stayed in Boulder for a quick weekend trip to Eldora Mountain to snowboard. We were looking for something with a little attitude and a lodge feel, so this was perfect for us.

The staff were very nice and welcoming. The building is very old and quaint. Rooms are very simple with no fluff, clean, and welcoming. Motel is very convenient - 35 minutes from Eldora and about 5 minutes from all the action in Boulder.

Two negative points to note: a few bugs - apparently they are common in the area during the winter, so we found a few in the bathroom. They don't bite and weren't bothersome. The breakfast is very simple and the coffee was weak. A few packaged cinnamon rolls/buns, oatmeal, bananas, oranges, orange juice, coffee, and tea.

Overall, perfect for anyone looking for something that isn't cookie cutter and likes things on the simple side. I would stay here again on my next visit to Boulder.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts on your visit to Boulder and our quaint motel.
In response to the uninvited guests of winter...we apologize. According to Jeff Mitton, the chair of the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at the University of Colorado, the Boxelder bugs sneak inside buildings, homes and offices all throughout the mountain range in search of a comfortable nook to pass the winter. So that a harsh insecticide is not used, we use multiple methods to discourage these pesty herbivores which minimizes the number that a guest will be presented with. Frustrating to say the least.
The motel does not have a food license. We do not sell or provide any unwrapped products. This is for the safety of the guests. We provide a light, simple, get-you-started-in-the-morning contential breakfast. As individuals tastes do vary, we apologize if we could not provide at least one item to this guests liking.

We are low maintainence travelers so we were looking for something close and inexpensive. Almost felt like we were camping. Location is close enough to walk everywhere.

Don't stay here if you are looking for a pampered experience. No air conditioners and small bathrooms but just what we wanted.

My wife and youngest daughter stayed at The Foot of the Mountain Motel in October for a long weekend while visiting another daughter at CU. Look, if you're looking for a cookie-cutter chain hotel, there are plenty of those options in Boulder, but FOTMM ain't it. It is quaint, old fashioned (maybe just old) and the rooms and baths are not updated to the most modern standards. It definitely has a Twin Peaks vibe going. BUT, it is clean and cozy, and the location across from the park is great. You can walk to the Red Rocks trailhead in 5 minutes, and the Pearl St. coffee shops and restaurants are another 10 minutes on foot. My only complaint was that for some reason the maid didn't make up the room after the first night, and the manager on duty didn't seem overly concerned or motivated to take care of it. Would stay there again; can't speak for the rest of my clan.

It sounds like this guest enjoyed the full rhelm of what Boulder has to offer.
Housekeeping starts at about 9AM, based on occupancy levels. They clean all the rooms checking out for the day and then clean the rooms staying over night, or 'stays', unless a guest has a special request on the timing of when their room is cleaned. Any guest with a 'do not disturb' sign on their door will receive a phone call from either housekeeping or the front desk prior to the employees departure for the day. This gives another opportunity for the guest to receive cleaning, fresh towels or trash removal. Occationally a guest will have their 'do not disturb' sign hanging from the door and go out to enjoy the town or trails and miss this opportunity. When they return, not realizing housekeeping has limited hours, they then turn the sign around to request housekeeping and none is received. We absolutely respect the guests right to privacy and the 'do not disturb' sign. After multiple days go by and nothing is said by the guest until check out, the damage is done. The front desk would be happy to assist if this occurs. I, personally, apprecate the opportunity to fix any concerns a guest may have, within reason, then to have the guest feel uncomfortable with their stay with us. We always encourage the guest to communicate with the front desk if they are not receiving the service they need and deserve.

“Beware--”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 October 2011

We stayed here in October, 2011 while visiting family near by, did not make reservations, just stopped in to see if anything was available for 2 to 3 nights over the weekend. We gave our credit card to book for possibly 3 nights, for sure 2 nights. We were charged for 3 nights and when we told them we needed to leave for home a day earlier than expected, they refused to credit our card for the night we would Not be staying. We were told that we had to cancel our reservations in advance, although I pointed out that we never had reservations, did not make a difference. The room was extremely difficult for a handicapped person and at over $100/night, ended up being really pricey for 2 nights stay at the price of 3 nights...........definitely not worth it. And if you forget your shampoo, no tiny complimentary bottles, too expensive we were told. The persons cleaning the rooms did not speak English, could not understand our needs, sheets felt like they were starched. WILL NOT BE BACK!!!!!!!

When a guest has personally seen the room that they are guaranteed to get and a reservation is made in person, a confirmation is then given right on the spot. This is an understanding that the room will work for them knowing the limitations of the handicap and what the room has to offer. The confirmation also has the cancellation policy for the room reserved written on it. When a guest checks in, the arrival and departure date is varified, registration is then completed in the guests handwritting with signiture. When a guest signs the registration form, they are indicating that all the information is correct. That is two methods that communicates the cancellation policy and correctness of the reservation. This is a 30 year process here at the motel.
If a guest has forgotten a personal item, such as shampoo, etc., we keep some items at the front desk. We encourage guests to ask so that we can respond appropriately.
Having a housekeeper that speaks very little English creates a language barrier. She works very hard for us and tries to be attentive. Anytime the guest has concerns or feels as though they are not getting the attention they need and deserve, again, it is encouraged to call or come by the front desk. We feel as though it is that important to get it right.

“Great value for location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 October 2011

Near downtown Boulder, the least expensive lodging you'll find.
The rooms are not fancy but clean and well maintained. On a quiet side street. Pleasant owners.
Located just across the street from a nice city park and the Boulder Creek path - great connector to the Pearl St area, or for jogging/biking. Beautiful area.
Will definitely return for future visits to Boulder.
