We recently stayed at the "lodge" for one night only, and that was because we could not take it for another night (we booked it for 5 nights total). First, this place is nothing more than a run down, creepy, old motel. The website is very, very misleading. Can you "hike" out the back door of your room? Sure, straight up a trail to nowhere. Can you "fish" in their stream area out front? Sure, but you have to pay...per fish...which is ridiculously absurd. Is town within walking distance? NO WAY...about 6 miles of canyon away. Is it within biking distance? Yeah, down hill...if you want to come back, get ready for a 40 minute ride. Are the rooms anything but dingy, damp, old, and just plain gross? No, they are all of the above. We had a "Full kitchen" on our reservation...which turned out to be a 1970's microwave and mini fridge??? Also, we had a room that had a closet door between the people next to us, which may as well have been a piece of paper as it was so thin and uncomfortable. For that matter, the door may as not have been there as you could actually SEE THROUGH IT! Honestly, I don't know how this "lodge" could ask guests to pay more than $50/night. There are absolutely no ammenities, there is no view, and the website does it absolutely no justice for how poor it is. I must say the man at the front desk (I believe it is family owned) was very cordial, understood our complaints and refunded out last 4 nights given how unhappy we were, so at least that was nice of him. Nonetheless, they still got us for $140 the first night in the Bates Motel. Even if he hadn't, we were ready to leave after day 1 and just eat the loss as their cancellation policy is also a crazy tourist trap. Read the fine print (that just so happens to not be on their site, but only on the confirmation email after you book - cancel 3 days prior to your stay, or 3 days prior to leaving - so technically you are stuck once you get there). We were able to get a 4 star hotel in town...for $50 less per night!!!
We are not city slickers here, so don't want this review to be misconstrued. I'd rather of stayed in a tent, or my rental car for that matter. Honestly, I can't see a scenario I'd recommend this place, period. Stay away! Any other review otherwise I just can't imagine as being a real person who actually stayed there.
