“Another stay, another year...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

This is a place to stay when the Westin is sold out or too expensive. While I know status isnt considered here due to the type of hotel...zero recognition is never welcome. The room was exactly as I remember...The hotel is nice, room well equipped, and the guys in the rental store are outstanding. No snowfall so the snowboarding wasnt the best that weekend. two hot tubs, one inside and outside. THe outside one needs to be repaired. The gym is nice. THe property needs to overhauled to compete with its sister property (Westin). I assume they are both corporate owned. Free underground parking is very welcome. Will use this property when the 1st sentence holds true.

“Good”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

We went to Sheraton mountain vista this winter, for skiing. The apartment was very good, big enough with all the appliances needed, like dish washer, washing machine, etc… the guest service was really nice, Mr.Chavez was very helpful and kind. You have to walk 2 blocks to the gondola that take you to the one of the mountain entrance, or you can get a bus in front of the hotel to the main entrance of Beaver Creek all transportation were free.

Thank you for your wonderful review of the conveniences of your villa. The large one bedroom villa, with full kitchen including dishwasher, full size refrigerator, oven and built in microwave certainly meets the needs of most families that visit us here at Sheraton Mountain Vista. In addition, the smaller villa also has a dishwasher, a full size refrigerator and a conventional microwave making this a great option as well. Both villas have a stackable washer/dryer which adds to the convenience of our villas for families. We are happy to hear that Rigo Chavez, our Front Office Supervisor, met your needs during your stay with is exceptional guest service. As you mentioned, the Gondola at the Westin Riverfront Mountain Villas is only a few blocks away from our property, making travel to and from the ski slopes at Beaver Creek effortless. Also making travel to and from the slopes easy for our guests is the Avon Bus route, with transportation stops just outside our hotel, offering a ride to Beaver Creek Resort at no charge. Thank you for your review of our property, we hope to see you again in the near future

“Rooms are nice”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

This property has no restaurant/bar so you'll have to walk/drive/taxi for anything beyond coffee & a muffin at breakfast. If you're hoping to get Starwood points for staying here, you won't (I was told that I'd get them but didn't). The registration folks were unfriendly bordering on unhelpful. In my opinion, the only redeeming quality of this property are the rooms, they are nice, clean, ample spaces. But if you're coming to the Avon area - I'd stay at the Westin or some other locations before returning here.

Room Tip: I think all the rooms are probably similar and there should be little road noise.

“Sheraton vs. Westin for family in Avon CO (Beaver Creek)”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

people found this review helpful

I generally stay at Starwoods properties and there are two in Avon CO - a Sheraton and a Westin. I'll post this same review for both properties, having stayed at both a couple times with our family of four.

The Westin hotel is an off the charts great property for ski season. Incredibly convenient, great service, great lobby area, gondola to the mountain. The Seraton actually has a better room / suite layout for a family of four and is more economical (both room and extras).

Details:

Property. Westin is a resort. Spa, etc. Westin lobby is great. They have live entertainment in the evening (brother/sister acoustic singers were best!), little plate appetizers, fire place, tvs, etc. Very comfortable! Sheraton has nothing like that -- DVD rental kiosk with out of date movies in the lobby.

If you're going to ski Beaver Creek, Westin is amazing. You check your skis with the ski valet when you check in and boots in a locker area. In the morning come down to the locker and get your boots, put them on, grab a granola bar, walk outside and get your skis, then board the Westin gondola which brings you right to Beaver Creek. Makes you very spoiled! At the end of the day ski down "Leave the Beav" past the Ritz and take the Westin gondola down and the attendant meets you when you exit the gondola, takes your skis to storage. You walk over to check in your boots, and back up to the room. Very pampered life!

For Sheraton - at the start of the day you walk across the street and take the Avon bus (15 minute intervals) to the base of Beaver Creek. Not inconvenient. Same for return.

The Sheraton king suite rooms though are actually a bit more convenient (if less luxurious) for a family than the Westin. Nice king master . Nice pullout 2nd bed for the kids. Real kitchen for making lunch.

Sheraton includes free parking. Westin has about $50 per day in extra fees for resort charge and valet.

If you're going to ski just BC, the Westin is just an incredibly convenient, indulgent experience. If however you are an SPG points member for instance, and plan to ski Vail (since there are no starwoods in Vail), the Sheraton is a very good option too. Less expensive. Arguable better room for a family. Free parking. No resort fee. And the benefits of the Westin (like the gondola) are not important).

SUMMER NOTE: If you're staying in summer (which we've also done) note that the Sheraton has no A/C and contrary to popular belief, it actually gets HOT in July/August even in the Rockies.

Room Tip: SPG members, spend the extra 1000 points on the upgraded deluxe wuite room - its much larger.

“Decent property in a good location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

We stayed at the Sheraton for the Christmas holiday. The property is in a good location with close access to Beaver Creek Mountain either by driving or via shuttle. Besides the SPG timeshare solicitation, we had an overall positive experience at the property. The suites is a good size in comparison to other properties ie Westin in Whistler, BC.

Thank you for complimenting the size of our Villas, we agree they are a “good size”. The deluxe villa is 590 sf and the premium villa is 760 sf, with each unit having a bedroom that is separate from the living area. Our location is great with easy access either by a vehicle or walking to a wide variety of different restaurants. The Avon Recreation Center is located just across the street from us as is Nottingham Park with its beautiful views overlooking the lake. Thank you once again for the great feedback. We hope to see you return soon.
