We take an annual snowboarding trip every year and spend $4K - $6K and treat ourselves to a necessary "unplugged" vacation. We don't mind paying a little extra to stay at nice places and visit nice locations - thus we chose to stay directly in Beaver Creek Village and paid a premium to stay in St. James Place. We even chose to pay for a 2-bedroom, since all the 1-bedrooms were booked at the time. Our trip length was for a 6-night stay.

We arrived, went through the gated check-in (both the village and the lodging are both gated acces). We got our room keys and made our way back into the "Private Residences" section. We opened the door and were greeted by bright sunshine and cars, buses, and trucks rolling by just a few feet outside the window/porch. Because the unit was actually slightly below ground level, we were looking at the wheels and door panels of the passing vehicles. Even with alll the doors/windows closed, the vibration and noise was clear.

(Aside from this issue, the room was absolutely gorgeous, high-end fit-out, appliances, decor, etc.)

We knew we'd have to keep the blinds closed to keep the visual distraction to a minimum and there would be no way to escape the noise, which would keep us up all night.

We immediately called the front desk and asked for another room. The evening-shift guys tried very hard to be helpful, but there were no 2-bedrooms available. We asked about 1 bedrooms and was told there'd be one available starting the next night, if we wouldn't mind changing rooms. We agreed and they said they'd leave a note for the next day's staff. They even agreed to move our bags during the day while we were on the slopes.

The next morning, on our way out to our first day on the slopes, we stopped by the front desk to let them know we put all our bags right by the front door. The person behind the counter started to apologize, said she hadn't seen the note from the night shift soon enough and granted the current occupants a late check-out. No big deal, we'd be on the slopes anyway, right? So we thought it was a done deal.

We come off the slopes and our bags are not moved, though the room is available. They had called my cell and left a vmail, but for some reason I never recieved it (until about 5 hours later). She just wanted to check with us, since the manager told her we would not be receiving the difference in room rate between a 2-bedroom and 1-bedroom unit. We already knew there were no other 2-bedrooms available and after a fitful night's sleep with the traffic literally just 10-feet outside the window, we knew we had to move.

The manager's justification for not providing ANY accommodation? She cited the 30-day refund policy as the reason she couldn't (wouldn't, really) make any adjustment. We still moved rooms and the subsequent 3rd floor room was on the interior and shielded from road noise. Making the move was quick and painless.

The new 1-bedroom unit was NOT in the "Private Residences" section and the room showed it - the appliances were several grades lower than in the other unit, the carpet a bit dingy, etc. So, now we're paying the same amount for a beautiful 2-bedroom unit that was in a crap location for a tired, dated 1-bedroom location in a fantastic location.

As mentioned in other reviews, this lodging is also on the exact opposite end of the village from where you need to go to get on the lifts. Next time, I'd stay in one of the closer lodging choices (there are several to choose from) and perhaps pick a brand-name (like the Park Hyatt).

Oh - one other tip - skip the Sunday night Wine & Cheese welcome session. Turns out they get everyone gathered and then subject you to sales pitches from various local vendors who want to address the whole room at once - so it's not really a time for socializing, meeting others, etc.

“Our third stay at the resort”

The location to Beavercreek Village is perfect and it seems as each stay there gets better and better. The staff really tries to be helpful and concerned for your family's welfare and safety. The staff offers good advice concerning staying in the correct room and adventures to look for.

The perfect place for a small or large group.

“Management took no responsibility for the problems we encountered”

Nobody let us know the pool and hot tub were undergoing maintenance and we brought 6 college students with us that were looking forward to those activities. Also, no hot water for 4 days...everyone took cold showers. Limited time with staff at the front desk and no restaurants open except the pizza place. Called number given to us to request another hot tub/pool we could access, and no help given after 3 phone calls. The fella working on the pool/hot tub told us they were giving the people staying at St. James Place access to another pool/hot tub while the maintenance was going on but when I asked the Assistant Manager, he said we don't do that. But, the lady working behind the desk said they would make arrangements but our college kids had already headed back as they were only there for the weekend Parked in a garage that had access to the resort but had to haul our luggage up two flights of stairs outside. Assistant Manager spoke to me on Wednesday (we checked out early because the experience was horrible) and Assistant Manager lied to me saying hot water was working and they didn't have to make any adjustments to get it working. I asked the maintenance guys if they had to do anything to get it working and they said they had it turned down because nobody was at the resort to save money and they had to turn it up. Unethical Assistant Manager...unacceptable. No responsibility taken for any of the problems we encountered...not a good way to do business.

“St. James Pl. in the Fall”

Just finishing up a beautiful week here in Beaver Creek, Colorado at St. James Pl. Anytime I am able to trade my timeshare in Vail for St. James Pl., I jump on it. The resort is right on the Beaver Creek square. Many of the units have recently been refurbished. I was able to spend the week in a 3-bedroom, 3-bath villa (#306). It would sell for around $1.3 million if sold. Everything is top notch and this week is especially feautiful with the changing of the color of aspen. We enjoyed the Vail Oktoberfest in Vail Village at the beginning of our stay. What a fantastic time we had there! If you ever get the chance to come to Colorado, this is one of the finest timeshare trades you can make. As far as restaurants.....many great places to go but I would stay away from Tuscanini....the food is very mediocre (no flavor and small portons at a large price) and the service is the same.

“Wish we were there now”

We just returned from Beaver Creek and had stayed at the St. James. It was absolutely wonderful. We had originally reserved a studio and when we arrived, they had put us in a 1 bedroom. It was huge and had a fireplace and full kitchen. We were surprised because we had planned on eating out every meal because we thought we wouldn't have a kitchen. The amenities in the hotel were top notch. They helped with every request; the room was incredibly clean; and the hot chocolate in the lobby was the best. They gave us a ski locker that was about 100 yards from the slopes. It was a crawling distance from the Dusty Boot(our new found favorite place) and that helped for our trip home! We've read many reviews on this site and thought we'd add our own. My wife is very particular about the quality of rooms we stay at and this one did not dissapoint at all. We would gladly return and would look forward to trying out a bigger unit with more of our family. This was a romantic/skiing trip and it served it's purpose well.
