“Forget Aspen, Beauty is in Basalt!”

This wonderful lodge is located only 20 minutes drive from Aspen. Yards away from the building runs a delightful, melodic river. One can sit upon padded chairs at river’s edge and contemplate God’s beauty! Newly owned and redone, the rooms were good sized, luxuriously decorated, and very clean. The beds were wonderfully comfortable, the sheets felt 1000 thread count, and the towels were top of the line plush. This lodge is large enough one doesn’t feel as if they are intruding into someone’s home. The staff was briskly efficient, though I did get the impression we irritated the caretakers with our 7:30 pm arrival due to storms in the mountain pass. She also gave our kids a rather stern lecture on behavior, (with a slight smile) saying not to jump on the beds or she’d hear them since she slept below. Being 10 and 15, I thought it was a bit overdone judging from their fallen smiles. Though the next day she very helpfully brought me numbers to two places to stay on our next destination. Christy, the manager, and the owner were friendly while respecting privacy. Hearty, though rather plain and limited, breakfasts are part of one’s stay as well, making this lodge a great deal in comparison to Aspen. They had internet access as well. TV’s were being installed as we left making one’s comfort complete. Just a short block away is the heart of lovely downtown Basalt with top-notch shops (picture Aspen 15 years ago) and eateries as well as activities such as rafting and fishing.

“Loved Everything!”

The Lodge At River's Edge was our first Bed & Breakfast experience and we will never be able to stay in a hotel again. We stayed in the Orchard Room that features a king size log bed with a featherbed and the most wonderful sheets and down comforter you can imagine. Breakfast began with a fresh fruit cup, then a scrumptious omelet and a fresh baked cinnamon roll. Talk about a great start to a beautiful day on the Frying Pan River. From here you can fly fish for trout on the Frying Pan or the Roaring Fork River or if shopping is for you - take a short one block stroll to downtown Basalt which has wonderful galleries, antiques and little shops to keep your credit card warm. This is a beautiful and very comfortable place to stay.

“wonderfully relaxing”

This recently renovated B+B is under new ownership and although we never stayed there before, it is obvious that the new owners are off to an awesome start! It is rustic yet elegant, just what I would want in a mountain home. Not a whole lot to look at with the outside of the 4 bedroom building but the surrounding deck and hot tub overlooking the rushing frying pan river makes it just right with comfortable lounge chairs and hammocks. The inside however is perfect with a huge fireplace, perfect new furnishings (orchard room I stayed in had gorgeous log bed). Probably would choose river room (because of deck) or orchard room-(every comfort attended to) but all would be fine. The log cabin looked cute too if you needed privacy but the main home with it's absolutely delicious breakfasts and helpful caretaker made me want to stay right there and not even go to Aspen! Basalt's nice restaurants and shops are within a 5 minute pleasant walk. can't wait to go back! P.S. Known as "Lodge at River's Edge" now.
