The Rockin 50s room sounded and looked inviting on the website. The description of the "lush gardens" and "sparkling pool" sounded nice especially in summer. The "nearby" attractions--shopping outlets, parks, a zoo and Palm Spring Tram etc. offered plenty to do. I signed up for a two-day stay in mid-July at the "reduced" summer rate of $300 + tax. Ok, still kinda steep but it sounded so special. We arrived and it was 110 degrees. Went to the room. It was decorated 50s style, but mostly clever paint job on an otherwise ordinary room--minus the hot tub. Hot tub was big--in fact it took up most of the floorspace. Bathroom was just like any motel bathroom. At this point we weren't sure it was worth the premium price, but we decided to check out the pool and gardens. The entire pool and spa (smaller than most Motel 6 ones) was filled with green algae-laden water--basically like pond scum. Of course there was a closed sign on the gate. The lush gardens next to it were about the size of someone's backyard--complete with junk piled up, almost no grass, and dead plants. That was it. We marched right back down to the office to cancel after being there less than 10 minutes. A govt. truck had just pulled up and when the man entered the office where we were getting our money back, he told the office worker that he was from the sanitation department about the pool. Ok, last, but not least, the attractions are quite a distance away--1/2 hr to 45 min. drive. There is literally nothing to do locally--even find a place to eat. (We found a fast food place, but the sink in the men's room and the toilet in the ladies' room were not working.)
FYI: We ended up driving to Desert Hot Springs where we got a nice room with 7 different hot springs pools, a great restaurant, and a clean comfortable place much closer to the "attractions."--oh and for less than 2/3 the cost.
