“Quiet, Quaint, Cute, Charming!!”

I searched on Trip Advisor before I chose here. I am glad I did!! The $42 rate was very reasonable. The motel is off the beaten path so it is VERY quiet and feels like you are out in the country even though I-5 is not too far away. I felt very safe and secure. The rooms are big and have bonus amenities like a Fridge, Micro, Coffee, extra snacks, etc... The shower is hot with excellent water pressure. The beds are a little old but still very comfy. I found no bugs, trash, etc...in the room. It was very clean and tidy. Sure the decor is late 1970s/early 1980s but so what??

I arrived here late at night after driving 8+ hours. I was exhausted and hot. The sweet innkeeper lady was waiting up for me because my husband called ahead and told her I'd be there and she got worried when I was 2 hours late. She was very friendly and even let me go take a dip in the pool. I asked her if I could check out late and she said take as much time as I needed. I wound up checking out a little after 2. She came out to my car to check me out so I didn't have to get out of the A/C. What kind of service is that? One that I rarely ever see at any "Chain" hotel. I would definitely stay here again, easily.
The only thing I would recommend is that if you are hungry is to stop somewhere and grab your chow before you get to the motel and bring your food with you because there's no food places, mini marts, etc...for a few miles. And this was also recommended by the innkeeper because she didn't want us to wind up having to drive miles again to find food when we had just driven the hours we did.

“Off the beaten path”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 August 2010

This motel is easy access from the freeway, yet away from the commotion of the motel/restaurant jumble of travel stops. Very quiet. Roses, grass, and wind in the trees were relaxing. Hostess had detailed map of food services in the area. Nothing fancy, but everything I need for a place to stop for the night: clean, safe, comfortable. I would stay here again.

“Great experience!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 May 2010

I am traveling on business and could have stayed at any lodging in town, but had googled the area and thought this place looked charming. I flew from Vegas to Oakland, then drove to Petaluma, Santa Rosa and after an unanticipated stop in Napa decided to press on rather than stop when I normally would have, simply because I was curious about this little spot. Am totally glad that I did. The service is courteous, the room spacious and very clean. Free wifi, and the room has a little coffee pot, microwave and frig. I woke up this morning and walked across the courtyard to the ice machine and the fog had not burned off yet; the sight of the pool surrounded by blooming roses shrouded in fog was really peaceful and pretty (especially for someone who lives in the desert!). Good water pressure, plenty of hot water and the towels were soft, not scratchy. GREAT VALUE, particularly in California!

“Still a great place to stay”

We just returned from a trip to California and stayed again at the Blue Gum on our way down. We had stayed there last Oct. (see previous review) and were a bit puzzled by some of the other reviews that had appeared since then. Despite the bad things written, we went again based on our own experiences and were NOT disappointed. It is the same as it was in October and I stand by my review. Do you have to get under a small counter to turn on the A/C? Yes. So what? What do you expect for $42? So what if a faucet leaks a bit? We were told when I made the reservation that the pool was being worked on and is now apparently fixed. It didn't matter since we arrived late, too late for a swim. As I said in my previous review, if you are accustomed to 3 and 4 star motels, pass this one up. You will be disappointed. But, if like us, you travel for the experience of travelling and not for the overnight accomodations and stay in 1 and 2 stars places, then you should find this motel appealing. Apparently some folks have a very different level of expectations than us. We've traveled to other countries where we've paid much more for far less. Even in the US, we've paid more for less. On this trip we paid $56 for a Motel 6 with no microwave, no fridge (they wanted $3 extra for that), and no coffee in the room. Will we stay again? You can bet your bottom dollar on it!

“A Quiet Sanctuary with Clean Comfortable Accomodations”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 June 2009

We Decided To stay at The BLUE GUM MOTEL IN WILLOWS , CA . After A long journey from MILL VALLEY to PARADISE , CA . The Hotel featured many amenities that would suit our stay, WIFI INTERNET, MINI FRIDGE, MICROWAVE, CABLE TV, COLD BLOWING A/C, INROOM COFFEE AND SUPPLIES COMFY BEDS AND ROOMY ATMOSPHERE. Unlike most of the chain motels it has a friendly staff and a wonderfull garden, beautifully laid out with palm trees and lots of pretty flowers which attracts A wide range of birds from many different species, hence it's A Sanctuary. The swimming pool is always nice for cooling off on a hot day, It's A very clean and refreshing pool! This motel is very close to wildlife refuge, Farm Sanctuary, many great restaurants and attractions in the area which lead us to stay over a couple extra nights. The motel is a bit older (a half century or so) but its well kept and maintained IT'S EVERYTHING I WOULD ASK FOR IN AN ECONOMY MOTEL IN THIS AREA . I WILL DEFINATELY RETURN TO THE BLUE GUM MOTEL IN WILLOWS, CALIFORNIA!
