“Nice but not ADA accessible”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 October 2010

I'm a disabled veteran, often confined to a wheelchair but luckily able to use my cane this trip. The folks at Wilbur were made aware of my limitations when they booked the room for me and told me there were only a "few" steps down to the springs and into the hotel premisis. When pressed for what a "few" meant, they said two or three. Not so.

I don't mind a few steps with someone to help me down or up them but the number of steps required to get to the springs outside of the flumes was a lot more than a few and getting into that spring requires a really long step down that I couldn't do without getting onto my rear first (I hurt my knee badly the first time I stepped into it). Without assistance, or if I'd been in my wheelchair, I could have gone almost nowhere on the property.

I loved the place, the energy of the location, the friendly staff, the little nook of a room we stayed in, everything except for the lack of accessibility. Since the deck was put in after the accessibility laws where inacted I see no reason why they shouldn't have made it more accessible at that time. Particularly since I'm sure a lot of disabled people like me like to visit springs for their healing effects. Oh, and if you are disabled, you can just forget about the yoga deck.

“great way to relax away from it all”

Stayed there one night to relax in their hot sulphur springs. Away from it all, don't expect to have cell phone connection or internet. The spa area is nice and you can soak for hours in the different hot tubs. Room was clean and cozy, no keys, it's kind of a hippie atmosphere. Bring your own food, you can cook in the common kitchen and then eat your own stuff. Had a great massage there, too.

“Unplug in Relax in the Mineral Springs”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2010

This 24/5 to 24/7 on-call gal needed to unplug and relax, and I finally found it here on the 1800 acre, solar-operated, off-the-grid, mineral bath retreat. It was fabulous. I soaked, I ate gourmet food that I brought and prepared on my schedule, I read, I contemplated and I enjoyed my significant other's company.

It's clothing optional only in the flume-area, and all are respectful. No 'scene' here unlike other Northern California mineral baths. At the hotel and on the hiking grounds all are clothed; people do not prance around naked here.

The hotel public areas are so large that you can always find a private places to eat or chat if you wish: Great Room, Dinning Room, Library, Lobby, huge enclosed Veranda and many outdoor sitting areas. A mile away is a lovely picnic table for a private getaway.

If you get a chance, get a massage while you are there...you'll really unwind! I did. AND LOVED IT!!!

You obviously get us, and it's a thrill to read a review like yours. You also obviously understand how vital it is to have endorsement and support from people such as yourself.... many eyes crawl across your words and thoughts, and the way you express yourself about our property is unrivaled. It is an honor to be responding to someone who is willing to take the time and energy necessary to help other formulate new opinions about us....

sometimes the network of conversation is all we have, and the words put here last for so long... and truly impact and help future travelers.

Your expression of our property was completely on point, and you subtly indicated some of the more grand aspects of our property... we have Chef's weekends if you don't want to cook, but having the complete freedom to operate on your own schedule is a rare treat. We are proud of being able to have that sort of environment... very personal while still being inclusive.... accessibile without being cult like. Clothing optional, but not overbearing or awkward like other places near us.

You review will speak to many future guests, and we truly need supporters like yourself to spread the word of Wilbur! You have done that and more, and we can't thank you enough.

Cheers, I hope this finds you well.... and hope to see you soon!

Sincerely,
Michael at Wilbur

“Like going to summer camp”

I just got back from a wedding weekend at Wilbur Hot Springs and had an amazing time! The place was rustic and magical, and was a great place to hold a wedding weekend. We rented out the entire place, and used the communal kitchen to cook our meals. Late night dips in the hot springs were incredible, and mid-afternoon yoga. The grounds are awesome, and the countryside is beautiful. Anyone thinking about having a beautiful rustic wedding has found their place. This is it!

Oh my gosh thank you so much. We are so happy to be interacting and communicating with all of you out there - thrilled to be on here, chatting with our guests! It is too kind of you to take the time to write a review about Wilbur - but what's more is the glowing sentiment.... coupled with how important the entire weekend was for you, we are really proud to receive your high marks!

Magical is a word that passes our way quite often, and it truly is a special place.... it is always an honour to have someone that understands that. I am pleased you enjoyed your time and our offerings. I am not sure there is a more incredible experience than those stars over your head during an evening soak. =)

Thank you again, and cheers to you! I am getting married in about a month, so I can empathize with the elation, as well as relief that all the planning is past you! If you have any pics, feel free to share them. You can search for us on Flickr, Youtube, Twitter... we are there. or you can send me pics to wilburhotsprings at gmail dot com?

Sincerely,

Michael H.

“Great waters, lovely grounds, okay hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 May 2009

I disagree with a lot of the negative reviews. Many of these types of clothing optional hot springs ARE pricey, but keep in mind you aren't paying 175 for just the room, you are paying for the room and the use of the pools (which are open 24 hours).

I usually go off season and pay closer to 140 for the room anyway- it's less crowded and the pools are temperate to hot so I don't mind if it's only 60-65 during the day.

The rooms are very quaint and I 've stayed in a particularly quiet room (which had its own deck). The only issue with that particular room we had was that you actually had to GO OUTSIDE and enter the building in a separate entrance to use the bathroom. That sucked because I always have to use the bathroom in the middle of the night. On the other hand, our room was very quiet and we woke up to about a dozen deer grazing on the hill right next to our deck, which was lovely. I may stay in one of the other rooms next time, simply in order to have an easier time reaching the bathroom!

In general, I think if you are assuming your room cost 175, yes you may feel disappointed. On the other hand, if you assume it would be about 40 dollars per person to use the waters during the day, then your room actually costs less than 100. The rooms are definately worth that. I'm not sure of many places in Northern California that are idyllic and cost less than 100 dollars a night... can you think of any?

The pools are very nice, but very quiet. If you talk, you must talk quietly. The biggest pool is about 90 degrees (or so it felt) and it's lovely to just float on your back (which takes no effort at all due to the minerals in the water) for hours at a time. There is also a small pool that you can talk in that is about 100 degrees, and three smaller baths that are "no talking" and go from about 100 to 106 degrees..

Anyway, it's not for everyone. It has a idyllic, natural setting and cozy rooms, a great kitchen and pleasant sitting area/living room. It does not have concierge service, internet access, and bikini waxes. If you are looking for a high end spa experience you will be disappointed, if you are looking for a cozy, peaceful retreat with awesome pools, baths and a sunny deck, then this is the place for you!

Cheers and good day, and thanks to you - not only for taking the time to write a review, but for your graciousness and enthusiasm about our grounds!

It is true that the price includes the springs round the clock, but we also like to think that the extra couple bucks a night keeps us relatively hidden, removed, and less impacted than other local springs that are overrun with people, creating a "scene" with clashing energy and less peace and quiet. You can rest assured that you will have an extraordinarily relaxing weekend here.... and the way we manage that is to respect our guest's need for relaxation, rather than our compulsion to fill all our rooms constantly.

Very good advice helping people realize about our rear private suite... the bathroom is not connected, and at night that is the one disadvantage. It isn't too far a trek, but thank you for alerting unsuspecting guests!

I loved your rationale, and your last paragraph.... no bikini waxes here. While your at it, not only do we not have internet.... but cell phones don't work either. Guess you will have to do the work when you get back!

That being said... you are right just about everything except one thing... I am sort of your concierge! Online travel planner, advice giver, info haver, and Wilbur celebrator-er-er-er. You can find me on flickr and youtube, twitter and facebook. Just search for us. If not you can always find me wilburhotsprings at gmail dot com. Don't hesitate to let me know next time you will be coming by, and make sure we can get you into the apartment, or room closer to the WC!

Cheers, thanks again, see you soon... and be well!

Sincerely, Michael H.
