“Let it drop away”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

We have one regret about going to Wilbur. We should have stayed another day! It is really relaxing to be there, and was one of the highlights of our week in California. The front desk staff is highly variable, so don't expect speedy service and sometimes you'll get it. The waters are amazing. I think our favorite part was how happy and open all the guests are and how much everyone was blissed out just to be there. The communal kitchen was fun - it is so rare to cook with other people, compare notes, etc.

Room Tip: Go for a walk - it's an amazing landscape, even in winter.

“Hottest flume around”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 November 2011 via mobile

The water is what it's all about. We've been to a whole bunch of hot springs all around the world. I have to say Wilbur has the hottest flume at 114 if you can handle the heat. The water is chalked full of minerals and leaves you feeling silky smooth and refreshens your self and spirit. We camped out and it was a little spendy but well worth it. Make sure and bring food. Full kitchen at your disposal. Live for the love of life!

“The best place for relaxation”

I've been going to Wilbur for 10 years-It does have a 'camping' feel to it, but it is the best water on the west coast, so it is worth it. Natural occurring lithium in the water makes you totally relaxed. The library and the pool table are great perks. Embrace your inner-hippee, bring your own food and wine, and be prepared to cook in a large and well-stocked kitchen. I totally agree with "DruidMedb," in that Wilbur is incredibly difficult for the disabled.

Room Tip: The 3rd floor gets very warm, so if you go in the summer, choose the 1st or 2nd floor.

“Serenity & Shooting Stars”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 August 2011

The first word that came to mind as I stepped out of the car at Wilbur was "serenity". There is a peace and quiet,an energy that settles over you almost instantly - it truly is an amazing "sanctuary for the self".

I spent a lot of time researching hot springs in California and Wilbur struck a chord with us as a place where we could get off the grid, reconnect and truly unwind. Our only regret now is that we didn't spend longer here.

Some practical advice - Wilbur is a place you truly share with others and not just in the physical sense in spaces like the kitchen, bathrooms, showers, and communal lounges. You share it in a spiritual sense and it requires you to contribute peace, goodwill and a smile. If you are looking for a five star, off the grid escape, this probably isn't the place for you. It's rustic and rough around the edges, but that is a part of the charm.

Rather that reiterate what a lot of other reviews have already covered, I'd rather share some reflections of our time here in the hopes that it will inspire others to make the journey.

walking back to the main building after parking the car and being awestruck at how peaceful and quiet it was. The sounds of the air (yes air has a sound), of birds, of bubbling creeks. The feeling of being a world away from the rest of civilisation.

wandering the property before sunrise, watching animals grazing and seeing the valley come to life

Imagining people being here over 100 years ago, walking in their footsteps.

sitting quietly with my wife, eating on the open air verandah, watching humming birds and smiling.

soaking very early in the morning, and very late and night. feeling nurtured and nourished by the waters.

riding through the valley watching squirrels scurry across the roads and reaching the geyser, watching it bubble to life from a grumble in the ground.

laying outside on the pool deck very late at night and seeing the milky way like I haven't seen it since camping as a child - seeing meteors, shooting stars and satellites. Breathtaking.

leaving with fondness and a yearning to return. Two days felt like a long time, but not long enough.

"In all the world, no waters like these" - perfectly put.

“A Most Relaxing Experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 July 2011

I've been a regular at Wilbur for many years. To me the ambiance, the healing properties of the waters, the old hotel built in the 1800's, and the vast acreage surrounding it are unparalled. The hotel itself is clean, comfortable, and well maintained. There's a music room with a piano, a guitar, and other instruments, a well stocked library, and a large fully equipped communial kitchen where people gather to prepare their meals. You bring your own food to Wilbur, and eat whenever the mood strikes. There are refrigerators, and pantry space for each room. In addition to all this, the hotel is solar powered. No phones,TV, or other distractions. Massage and Yoga are offered, and gourmet weekends with delicious fully prepared meals have become regular events. As if this weren't enough, The waters are amazing! I've been to most of Northern California's hot springs, and to me, nothing compares. There are flumes (3), each of which is a different temprature, a large pool for swimming., and a warm outdoor conversation pool. Lots of decks give you plenty of options for shade, sun, conversation, or privacy, it's all there. There's also a sauna. One of my favorite things about Wilbur is how quiet and peaceful it is. Peoples privacy is respected an honored. In short, there's no creepy energy to taint ones experience. Clothing is oppional. I love this place, and highly recomend it.
