I will be brief, but have much to say. I had important business
to take care of during my two night (july 13-15) stay at the Days Inn in
Whittier, but was forced to cut my trip short and leave after just the
first night. There were MANY problems with this hotel but the worst was
the safety. As I sat in my room on the first evening of my arrival, I
heard someone fooling around with the door from the outside. I hear a
key card clicking and the handle jiggling for a few minutes, and then
the person begins to forcefully enter. They say nothing, just continue
to enter the room. Luckily I locked the door prior. I wait a few
minutes, but the man continues to enter. I swing open the door, ready
for a fight, to find a trucker-type man who claims the front desk just
gave him my room. What?? Eventually he goes away and I get a call from the
front desk telling me I should have checked out. What?? I just checked
in!! I go down to the desk and they say there was a mix up. They say
sorry and go about their business as usual. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE!! I
felt COMPLETELY UNSAFE. In these hard economic times, we patrons pay our
money for the comfort and safety of hotels. I felt neither safe nor
comfortable at this location. I left the next afternoon. The staff
rudely did nothing. If I were a single young woman, I would have a
lawsuit!! In addition to this incident, there were also SEVERAL minor
issues as well. When I checked in, the man barely said two words to me.
He didnt tell me where to park, where the ice machine was, when checkout
was, nothing. He simply said "room 105, king bed, smoking, in back.
Smoking". I asked him why it was smoking when I had requested a
non-smoking. He checked the reservation and said yes, you requested
non-smoking, but we dont have that right now. What?? The place was empty! Then came the attempted break in/room mix up as written above. After that, when I went
down to the front desk, the young lady working acted as if I were to
blame for the mix up. She was very short with me and very rude. The next
morning, before I left, I had trouble getting into my room, as my key
card was seemingly disabled. Again I went to the front desk and the man
that was working blamed me for bending the card so it wouldnt work. Was
he serious?? After a back and forth, he gave me a new card, but before I
left the lobby he asked me if I could leave my room for a half hour
because the carpet cleaners were shampooing the units and they wanted to
clean mine next. I gave him a look like are you kidding me and he said
oh, I shouldnt have asked you that. Never mind and then he walked away.
Back in my room I can hear the banging and clanging of the shampooers in
the rooms on either side of me. Hitting the walls with the bed posts and
ramming the shampoo machines against the runners on the wall. BANG BANG
BANG. Not long after, I packed my things and checked out. The man at the
desk even had the gall to ask was there something wrong with your stay. I
told him enough was enough and that I was leaving.
My business trip was completely ruined, and my time was wasted thanks to the Days Inn Whittier. I will be contacting the Better Business Bureau about this incident. The front
desk should NEVER give another person keys to an occupied room. What if
I was gone and the man entered with all of my items free for the taking
What if I was in the shower What if I was a woman or child, alone in the
room THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE!!!
