Don't be fooled by the low rate. Yes, you get what you pay for, but in this case you don't even get that.

I checked in for two nights with my three kids. The Internet rate of 79.99/night plus the kitchenette seemed like a deal. We didn't expect luxury, and from the other reviews knew to not even expect toiletries. We didn't expect to spend the weekend in something akin to a homeless shelter.

When we entered the first room we were assigned it reeked of smoke. I called the front desk asked to be assigned to a non-smoking room, only to be told this WAS a non-smoking room. After some wrangling they changed our room, but told me it was the only remaining double room available, so it had to work. Given that they parking lot was 99% empty and we never saw another guest all weekend, I find the "we are full up" statement a little odd.

The rooms are absolutely spartan. Stark white, little or no decoration, dirtry carpet and torn bedspreads. There was a dirty recliner chair in the corner with torn upholstery. It seemed like a place the County would send you if you showed up homeless and needed a place to live.

We stayed only two nights, so I can't comment on housekeeping, as it's only proviided for stays of a week or longer. If you are going to use the kitchen, be forwarned that garbage is an issue. They only pick it up when housekeeping comes to the room, and there is no alternative place to throw way trash. The wireless Internet did not work, although they did refund that fee when we checked out.

All in all I don't think we will ever stay at Extended Stay again.

I showed up at 8:30 at night only to be told I didn't have a room. It had been given to Hurricane Katrina victims. Wonderful - but I didn't even receive a phone call. They told me I could drive to their other hotel 20 miles away since they couldn't find a room for me at any other hotel in Sacramento. I have never dealt with such an incompetent group of people in my life. I had made a reservation 3 weeks before, I had a reservation number but I was told my reservation number was no longer any good because they switched to a new system and used different numbers now. I will never stay at another Extended Stay America.

I reserved 7 rooms for my family a month in advance. When we arrived we found out 2 rooms had been cancelled and all my rooms I had reserved with 2 beds had been changed to 1 bed. They told me it is their policy to "GUARANTEE A ROOM, NOT A ROOM TYPE." I asked why I had not been called about my 2 rooms being cancelled, they said they forgot. One of my family members had to drive another 20 miles to another Extended Stay to get a room with 2 beds. The hotel reeks of cigarette smoke and is very noisy. One room had a shower head held up with a plastic trash bag! The bathrooms don't even come with basic toiletries like shampoo. The people working at the front desk did not seem to have a clue to what they were doing. Avoid this place. It's a nightmare.

West Sacramento is maybe not a destination of choice, but it is only minutes away from the State Capital and you can find a real good deal here: the newest Extended Stay in the Sacramento area. The hotel opened a few months ago. Everything is brand new and clean. You must know that according to Extended Stay's policy there is only weekly housekeeping service if you choose to go with the cheapest rate. But the people at the front desk are extremely helpful and will provide you with everything you may need in between. There are not many restaurant choices close to the hotel, only a few fast food places like Subway and Jack in the Box. It is better to shop at a nearby Safeway market and use the kitchen that comes with every suite.
