I have been staying at this hotel every week (8 weeks, so far) and I go home on weekends. My job is somewhat mobile, so I'm on the road much of the time. Here is my opinion of this hotel having stayed here many, many nights.
First and foremost, I booked this hotel via a "name your price" website, so I wouldn't even think of staying here if I had to pay full price. Most of the time you will find that extended stay hotels cater to long-term 'tenants' and often provide a home-away-from-home for many workers, notably construction workers. That having been said, you will likely find the parking lots full of construction trucks, tractors and long trailers. The people staying here can sometimes be beer-drinking buddies and the noise (if you're unlucky enough to have a room next to them) can be quite annoying. I don't want to paint this place as a party hotel (its certainly not) but be aware that this place is not a vacation spot. If you're traveling and need a quick stay for a few nights: perfect. If you are on business then this might be a great place to hang your hat.
The area is safe (across the street from the California Highway Patrol Academy) and is conveniently located near businesses like:
Super WalMart (0.5 mile)
Home Depot and Ikea (0.5 mile)
Panda Express (next door)
Jack in the Box (next door)
Quizno's (next door)
Starbuck's (next door)
Shell Gas Station (currently $4.05 gallon as of August 1st and around the corner and cheaper than the 76 Station next door)
Many other businesses within 1-2 miles
Some of the Extended Stays have outdoor hallways, whereas this Extended Stay has indoor hallways, security doors utilizing keycards, large laundry room with good machines, enough parking, good outside lighting and quick access to I-80 and I-Street Bridge to get downtown Sac within 15 minutes without getting on a freeway.
Now here's the bad things about this hotel in my opinion. When I check into the Extended Stay, I carry with me a can of Lysol Disinfectant Spray. No kidding. I'm not compulsive or a germ freak, but I do have some dignity and cleanliness about my lifestyle. I NEVER use the kitchen utinsils until I wash them. I take a washcloth from the bathroom and completely disinfect the room right down to the door knobs. It never fails when I get into the room that the toaster and coffee pot are disgustingly filthy with fingerprints, food splatter and all-out creepiness. The door handles on the refrigerator are covered with prints and food. The countertop often has crumbs and the microwave is always never cleaned out and shows food splatter. Inside the refrigerator is often clean, but the top likely has NEVER been wiped down. Walk on the carpets in white socks for an hour and you'll see how filthy the carpets are. In fact, if you are barefoot in the room and get into the shower, you can see the dirt wash away from your soles. Eewwww! Keep your socks on.
What is it about bedding that gives me the creeps?? Well, when I once checked into the same room a week later, the bed blanket was the same one I had the prior week (I recognized the cigarette burn hole). I even once opened up a dresser drawer and found clothing from a prior tenant. I left it there in hopes they would find it's owner. But they never called me to see if it was mine and that leads me to believe that they don't go through the effort to return items you've left in the room.
The bathroom? It was clean, but I sometimes see pubic hair on the countertop, so housekeeping might be using the used towels to clean things. The whole bath gets a good Lysol Spraying!
All in all, if you book through a discount online booking company, this could be a good place to stay and well worth the discount. I would strongly suggest, however, that you buy a can of Lysol no matter what the cost. And this might be a good idea for any hotel you stay in. You could minimize your risk of germs that could be harmful for you or your family and children.
Internet access is good and wireless. Cost $4.99 for the entire stay here, even if you stay a month or more. Room boasts a 27" Philips TV (not flat) with remote. Adequate data port connections and plenty of electrical outlets for computers, printers and such.
I'm sure I've described many hotels by other names, but I will continue to stay here as I think I'm getting a good deal with online discounts. And I will never leave home without my American Express....uh...I mean my Lysol Disinfectant Spray.
