Suppose to have stayed here for 9 nights ended up only staying for two as we had to move to another hotel. There aren't many good things to say about this hotel. However some good things are that the valet boys at the front of the hotel are extremely helpful and nice cheery people very happy to help which was very welcoming. The rooms are bland but the bed is nice and comfortable and the shower has a great water pressure. The diner style restaurant downstairs has a nice atmosphere, good food and great service. Those were the only good things. If you have come to West Hollywood to go out every night and stay out late then this is the place for you, if not.... DO NOT GO TO THIS HOTEL. We basically didn't sleep the whole two nights we managed to stay here. We were staying on the second floor and the noise of the creaking floor from above was unbearable. So if you do plan to stay anyway, get a room on the top floor. We also could very clearly hear the conversation from the room next to us and also when they came back at 1 in the morning playing loud music and basically having a party. It is a shame that this hotel is so noisy and has a try hard feel to it because it would have been fine. Also the concierge didn't seem very friendly and most of the time looked like he had been slapped with a wet fish. But if you are coming to Hollywood for a short amount of time and are planning to party all nights then this is the place for you.

I've been in 5star hotels but this one had it all, good location, good service, clean, and of course the most important for LA, attractive! View from the room and pool is beautiful, diner for the breakfast tipical american, great bar. Pleasant and nice.

The Cliffs Notes version of this hotel is simple: Don't stay here.

Now, for the longer version.

I was in LA for 10 days on business. We chose The Standard Hollywood because we thought it would be a cool place to stay. It's not. Oh sure, it's fine if you:

• want to pay a fair amount of cash for what equates to a roadside motel
• want to be awakened each night by the steps of fellow hotel residents on the creaking floors above you (1st and 2nd floor)
• want to awakened each night be room/balcony/patio parties each night (3rd floor)
• want to have your eyes singed bye the day-glow orange tiles in the bathroom

In 10 days, I switched rooms 3 times. Initially I was on the first floor. I couldn't sleep due to the loud music playing in the lobby which found it's way down the hall and into my room. I was then moved to the 2nd floor. They were doing construction on the two rooms next to mine. That should have been an indicator of trouble. After five nights of being awakened by the people above me walking (partying?) in there room at four and five am, or the construction going on next door that started at 8 am (or sometimes both in the same night/day), I asked to be switched again. I was moved to the 3rd floor. On the 3rd floor I was finally able to get a night's sleep, save for the night a party was going on in one of the rooms.

This hotel exists, and is booked, on reputation alone. Everyone thinks The Standard represents a cool brand and therefore, must be a great place to stay. This assumption is wrong. The other Standards may be great, but this one is just terrible. The diner attached is nice and the food was solid. The waiting area is nice and seems hip. The pool area is a cool spot to relax and have a drink. But that's how you get hooked into believing this is a decent enough hotel. That all changes the moment you open the door to your room. I'd never even consider staying at this hotel again.

Let me first say that I was warned away from this hotels by friends who frequent Los Angeles because it was too "hip", which from my experience, means that I am too "old" for this hotel. In my 20-something days, this would have been a much different review. We arrived a few hours before the check-in and were advised by the valet that we were "early". This comment made me feel that we wouldn't be able to check-in until the official check-in time; however, the friendly front desk staff quickly checked us in and we were on our way. While there, certain floors of the hotel were under construction. Even though muted, I was able to hear the work (pounding, drilling, etc.) going on. The lighting in the hallway was dreadful, it was a purplish hue that made me feel like I was in a morgue. The room wasn't great. We were facing Sunset, which was fine with me, but for a week long stay for two people, we had four hangers and one drawer. Not enough but I didn't even bother calling the lobby. We had breakfast and coffee at the hotel restaurant which was quite good. The valet service with in/out privileges was a very nice and much needed service. In sum, if you're looking for an inexpensive (by LA standards) and convenient place to stay and aren't too worried about amenities, this is the hotel for you.
