We paid over $135 for a hotel (from http://www.hotels_and-discounts.com which is a part of Hotels.com and Expedia) that was rundown, dirty, shared a small, crowded parking lot with a cafe/bar (had to park in the street most the time and walk past people in the parking lot) The room (102) had no closet, towel rack was broken,4 electrical outlets would not hold plugs for blow dryers or computers. There were dead spiders in two corners of the room, exposed wires on wall, filthy carpets (made feet black as tar after walking on for a few minutes), stained sheets, the walls needed painting, baseboards missing, slow running bath drain (took 1/2 hour to drain after a shower), stained shower curtain (appeared moldy at the bottom but I didn't put my glasses on to verify what the black color was), worn furniture, chairs with spots that looked like people peed on them, window with insulation hanging down, a door that was difficult to unlock and walls so thin I could hear men's conversations on one side and a woman on the other side vomiting each morning and evening. We were frightened at night and took pictures of the dumpster in front of the hotel (a few feet from our doors) where transient people kept picking thru the trash looking for papers). We had ants that we shook out of our jackets in our rental car. We called the booking agent and they called the hotel. it resulted in having to stay at the same room but just getting a different room 2 doors down. The owner was kind enough to let us change the refrigerator , have a free ice bucket and some hangers. But this room (104) had carpet as dirty as the first (washed out the drawers with a wash cloth and it was black), was not in as great of disrepair as the first and was minus the ants. We felt this almost ruined our vacation/business trip. We were upset that Expedia did not offer us a refund or a new hotel booking. We felt stuck..

Before coming to our motel, they were already upset because of their flight delays. We had allotted them a room on second floor [Room 214], which we normally allot to Expedia guests. They choose room on bottom floor [Room 102] as they wanted to empty their stuff from the car . On next day, they requested to change the room. They did not ask for refund for rest of the days, if they did, we would have gladly agreed. To satisfy them, we showed them Room 104 before moving and they said yes. Room 104, is a family suite, with much higher prices than they have paid for. The carpet and interior is new in almost all rooms including 104. It was a bright sunny day, when they made a move to 104. They requested a refrigerator from Room 102. When I went to move the refrigerator, they were cooking on an electric stove inside the room, which could be a safety hazard. We do not know, if they spilled oil or something on the carpet during their stay. We do not allow cooking in non-kitchenette room, and they did not take our permission. We have a shared parking lot with the restaurant, but, restaurant opens only on Friday evening. Restaurant guests park on the street. Our guests park inside the 25cars parking lot. Laurie and her friend had always parked their red car in front of their room 104. The people near dumpster must be picking up aluminum cans and plastic bottles from the dumpster. We have tried to stop them many times, but, they get money from recycling, so they do that, in spite of our efforts to stop them. As per our building plan, none of rooms have closets. To keep the guest rooms with amenities we have added iron and ironing board in the room.
The guest should align their expectations, when getting a booking at motel. Franchise brand properties have different price structure and amenities than motels.
