I checked in at the Hyatt Valencia expecting that I would have a superior experience compared to the numerous less expensive hotels in the area. The lobby was clean and the receptionist were professional but when I headed towards the elevator, I couldn't figure out why the carpet was covered in plastic sheets. I was put on the 2nd floor of the hotel and as I got off the elevator, someone in the hallway grabbed me from behind and told me to stop. Turned out that they were filming a movie or TV show in the hallways and they had just yelled "action". I had to wait until the scene was over, and then had to maneuver down the hallways past a dozen people holding lights and cameras to find my hotel room. One of the film company employees said, "welcome to Southern California" and another said "I can't believe that they put you on this floor where we are filming".
I found my room and noticed that they had me in a room that only had a partial view as I only had half-windows which were cut off by the edge of the building. My TV didn't work whatsoever (albeit they did come to fix it) and the water pressure was somewhat weak. I only stayed one night, but I did leave my room several times and each time I had to wait a few minutes until the filming was over before I could walk down the hallway back to the elevator. I was told when I checked in that they had a "full" workout facility. They do have a workout room, but it was very small and when I did use it, there were film company employees hanging out in the room watching basketball on the TV’s.
The silly thing is that the hotel was probably about half empty and there was no reason whatsoever that they needed to put me on the 2nd floor where they were filming. When I checked in, they asked if this was my first time that I had stayed at the Hyatt Valencia, which I told them it was. Oddly enough, they seemed to use that against me to give me a room on the floor where they were filming. The person at the reception desk even said out loud that he saw that I was paying a "full rack rate" (in other words, I paid the full price without discounts and I used the Hyatt site directly to book the room). If I am paying a full rack rate, shouldn't they give me a better room rather than one of the worst rooms? Only after I checked in did I remember to show the front desk my Hyatt Gold Passport Card (I was actually a Platinum member)... but this was after he already assigned me the room on the floor that they were filming. When I checked out, they also told me that they would email me my final bill, which they never did. I will avoid this hotel and perhaps all Hyatt's going forward.
Room Tip: Avoid the 2nd floor
