“One of our favorites!”

My husband and I stay at the Tallman Hotel at least once a year. It's one of our favorite 2-night-getaway destinations for its convenient (and quiet!) location (less than 2 hours from Sacramento), amenities (Japanese soaking tubs on private patios!), and incredible staff. Although we've stayed here before, this is my first Yelp review and I was inspired to review for a couple of reasons. First, the customer service we received is consistently outstanding. We happened to stay this year during the week between Christmas and New Years. The young woman at the front desk was extremely helpful, and gave us recommendations for restaurants and coffee shops to visit during our stay. Second, we received a post-visit "thank you for staying with us" email from the hotel staff. One could view the email as a "fishing expedition" by management hoping for a good Yelp review ;-) but there seemed to be a genuine interest in receiving feedback on how they can improve the customer's experience. Another huge plus about staying here is lunch and dinner at the Blue Wing Saloon located right next to the hotel. TIP: get on their email list, if you're not already, and then take advantage of their $99 specials. The deal cannot be beat!

Room Tip: Go for the Japanese Ofuro rooms ... you will not be disappointed!

“Sleepy town coolness.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 January 2012

We stayed here for just one night after a couple of nights in Napa.  We loved the Tallman.  The building itself is amazing and the rooms outside the main building are very nice.  Marlana greeted us in the late eve and was very sweet.  I grew up going to our cabin in Cobb about 20 miles south of Clear Lake every summer, and Marlana was great to talk to because she is a Lake County native.  Lower Lake is certainly a quiet, tiny town...but sometimes that's exactly what you want.  Kind of seemed like you were at the edge of the earth...I guess because we rarely went as far as Upper Lake when I was a kid.  Somehow it seems further north than Seattle...I suppose it's just the remoteness.  Such a cool main street...The Blue Wing restaurant had the best stuffed artichoke I've had in a long long time...and a good tap of beers.  Amazing, recently restored and reopened mini golf is just on the other side of the lake in Clearlake!  Used to be Jules...now called Tatonka.  Original 18 holes are 95% in tact.  Check it out.  The Tallman may be a tad pricy, but it's far and away the best place to stay within 50-75 miles.  We had the Ofuro tub room...very cool.  Recommending the Tallman.

Room Tip: The garden room with the Ofuro bath is pretty nice. I've not seen the other rooms though...exce...

“Exceeded expectations”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 December 2011

Stayed here during a quiet weekend in December (non-holiday). The property is lovely and our room and amenities far exceeded our expectations. We noticed different room rates among different travel booking sites, so look around (may have been related to types of room). A complimentary, self-serve breakfast was served in the dining room (cereals, yogurt, toast, bagels, juices, fruit, coffee, etc.). Free wi-fi available throughout the property. Our room was quite large, upstairs and had a patio with table/chairs overlooking the courtyard. The bathroom was beautifully appointed and the entire room was cutsey-antiquey, but not in an annoying way. We did not use the pool (too cold), but it looked nice. Our check-in process was wonderful and the staff members were extremely friendly and welcoming. We ate dinner at the Blue Wing Saloon/Cafe (next door), which looks like nothing more than a pub, but actually served very high quality food and also had a great staff. We went wine-tasting across the street at LCWC, and were given complimentary tastings after mentioning we were guests at the Tallman Hotel.

Room Tip: Most rooms appeared to have patios with a table and chair, but some were quite a bit more expensive...

Always a superb place to get away from it all - the Japanese soaking tubs are pure heaven; staff is very friendly and the surrounding area is great to explore for running, hiking, wine tastings, etc.

Room Tip: if you are looking for peace and relaxation you must try the Ofuro rooms
