“Great Beds!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 June 2011

We stayed there many years ago when it was a Best Western - this time, we stayed 2 nights. The bed was wonderful - so comfortable! The TV in our room needed to be updated - it wasn't a flat screen & the picture quality was very poor - very blurry. The room had a DVD player, which we didn't use. Info in the room indicated that there are DVDs at the front desk that guests can borrow. There is a small business center with 2 computers. WiFi in our room worked fine. The hotel didn't have a lot of guests when we stayed there & we had no problems with noise. The bathroom was small & hadn't been updated but that wasn't a problem for us. There was a small microwave & a tiny refrigerator. Breakfast was good but I didn't like the coffee. We didn't use the swimming pool or fitness center.

The Truckee River Winery is within walking distance. There is a $5 charge to taste their 4 premium wines but you can taste the other wines for free. They get their grapes from various areas of the state. The women who work there were very friendly & knowledgeable.

There are also a couple of restaurants within walking distance. We ate at the Fifty Fifty Brewing Company. My French dip sandwich & my partner's veggie burger were both very good. We sampled the 4 beers that were available & they were all very good.

“Next time it will be our destination, rather than a stop-over!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 June 2011 via mobile

Stayed here because we were having vehicle problems and needed repairs before continuing to our destination. But, we loved it so much that we will soon plan a trip just so we can hang out in this hotel and enjoy the tahoe area. What fun comfortable decor throughout this hotel. A great place to stay. The free breakfast was a variety of hot foods and fresh fruit. Everything about this resort hotel was excellant! Can't wait to come back!

“One of the best places to stay in the Truckee area”

We stayed here one night to go cross country skiing. Our last visit to this property was years ago when it was a Best Western. Since then, the property has been updated and the rooms renovated. The room was good sized, clean, and the bed was very comfortable. The included breakfast buffet was freshly prepared with hot scrambled eggs, bacon, potatoes, and biscuits. The front desk people were very pleasant and helpful. Free wi-fi is a plus.

“Very Thin Walls”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 March 2011

This used to be a Best Western. The furnishings have been updated with a very comfortable bed, but the building and bathroom remain the same. The walls were thin with no soundproofing, and the doors were hollow. We could clearly hear the conversations of the people next door, the people upstairs walking around, and the people in the hallway as they passed our room. It was an unpleasant experience, except for the comfortable bed.

“comfortable family hotel, great service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 March 2011

We spent several nights here on a mid-week ski package, including one extra night due to a big storm. The hotel has a nice family vibe.

The maids work hard to keep the common areas and rooms spotless and there are nice extras in the room like feather beds and a selection of pillows. Sound insulation was good, but there was three feet of snow outside and it was not the weekend. (If you're sensitive to noise request a top floor and bring ear plugs.) The hot tub was small but did its job. Fitness center has a good selection of cardio machines and free weights. Breakfast at the hotel was okay, but not exceptional. There are several good restaurants next door to the hotel for lunch or dinner. We liked the 50-50 Brewing Company and the lovely new cafe and wine shop called Avec.

The young staff at the desk were always friendly and service oriented. They helped with road information, finding chain service, and general cold weather driving tips. They also have things like extra tooth brushes and cough drops. This is not the Ritz and if you are looking for that level of service you better go to Northstar. If you want an above-average hotel that is very comfortable and convenient to multiple ski resorts, this is your place!
