“A beautiful setting, but not the "Ritz" quality”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 May 2012 NEW

Stayed memorial day weekend and expected great things from the previous Ritz proprties I've stayed in. I was somewhat disappointed! The rooms were nice but not anything special. The housekeeping was below average: (1) left dirty rugs on top of our clean clothes (2) took the trash can out of the room and forgot to bring it back (3) the foam underneath the bed was hanging over the side of the bed - we had to remake the bed and (4) when ordering from room service we had to wait 45 minutes, called to ask where our food was - they forgot our order. It was delivered 10 minutes later.

Overall, the hotel did try to make up for the the inconveniences but I expected so much more from this property. It's a "ritz" after all. If your planning to travel here - keep in mind that they are obviously working on improving their service. Don't be surprised if your having to call guest service a lot to get your problems solved. For the expense - the Marriott in South Lake Tahoe is a better deal.

Sorry to say, this hotel didn't met my expectations -

“Serene”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 May 2012 NEW

The understated and elegant Ritz-Carlton hotel fits into the mountain as if it belongs there. The ski in ski out appears to be the most incredibly convenient I've seen and can't wait to come back during the ski season. Came off-season and never expected the joy of a snowfall for Memorial Day weekend but was beautiful. Absolutely serene off-the-grid-of-stress location. Phenomenal, attentive and down to earth staff. Warm place to be anytime.

Room Tip: They are all in excellent placements.

“Majestic Beauty”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 May 2012 NEW

Nestled among the pines and cozy. The room is spacious, the bed very comfortable, and the views are spectacular. However, most impressive item: massages and spa facility which includes a salt water pool, dry sauna, etc. The location is 5 minutes from North Star, 10 minutes to Truckee which has has a fun/funky shopping area, wine tasting bar, and some good restaurants...just ask the locals...they're friendly & will guide you. For a gourmet feast go to Stella's...bread is made daily in a wood fired oven...must eat the lettuce wraps.. Reservations required. Also, note you are close to Lake Tahoe...15-20 minutes but you cannot view Lake Tahoe from the hotel. If you golf, Old Greenwood is 20 minutes away & you get a discount if you stay at this Ritz. The staff is extraordinarily friendly and helpful.

Room Tip: You have a panoramic view of the mountains so most rooms are wonderful. Also, the sliding doors ope...

In true Ritz's style, this place is fantastic. The staff is genuinely friendly and helpful. The views are stunning and the amenities are top notch. The rooms are very well appointed.

“Service! Service! Service!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 April 2012

Although we didn't stay in the hotel, (we stayed in a residence on their property) we used many of the amenities of the hotel and were "wow'd" with their service. Spring skiing trip: Cafe restaurant was great for breakfast and lunch. Walk up service and waiters brought you your order wherever you decided to sit (inside in the living room setting, or outside on the deck with a beautiful ski view.) Some of us rented skis from the Ritz and some of us had our own skis. The attendant took ALL of our skis and layed them out on the snow for us ready and waiting for us to pop into them when we were ready to hit the slopes. After skiing, the attendant literally swooped up my ski equipment and asked where I was headed. "to the valet", I answered. After having an apres ski cocktail and snack by the fire, my skis were at the valet waiting for me! You can't beat that!
