“On Par with a Motel 6”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

Nothing particularly special. Double rooms are small, and very basic. Beds are comfortable, but pillows are very filmsy. View of the Freeway. Close to a shopping center where there is a grocery store, KFC, McDonalds and CVS. I think it's worth the drive to Tahoe City (if skiing Squaw or Alpine) or Kings Beach (if skiing Northstar) where you can get similar accomadations for half the price or less. Continental Breakfast consists of bagel, English muffin, coffee, instant oatmeal, coffee, tea and OJ. There is a refrig and microwave in the room.

Room Tip: Call hotel direct. If you're going to arrive after 10PM. Make sure the front desk is aware as...

“Comfortable and affordable”

The INN at Truckee is one of the least expensive motel/hotels in the area. It's nothing fancy but it is the best bang for your buck and conveniently located. EZ on and off Hwy 80. Nice bagel shop next door for breakfast and short walk to shopping center with big grocery store, pharmacy and ski shop. The rooms are fine and there's an indoor jacuzzi for soaking after long day on the ski slopes.

“Good Value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 September 2011

This is a motel that is close to the ski slopes and Donner Lake and can save you money over the very expensive resorts. Walk to shopping and restaurants. Rooms are clean and modern. Free Wifi, Free pastries, coffee and orange juice for breakfast.. The negative is that it is close to I-80 and you hear some occasional truck noise. But the price is much lower than what we could elsewhere in Truckee.

Average motel, free wifi. Don't eat at the chinese restaurant nearby, the food is horrible.

“Expectations guide the results”

I have read the other reviews of this hotel, and I can see the reasons for both the good and bad reviews.

The good. The hotel is just off the highway, far enough away that we didn't have noise in our room, but close enough to 80 and 89 to be perfectly located for our snowboarding at both Alpine and Sugarbowl. It is also among the cheapest hotels that afford internet booking in the area, and the area is desireable, so the value is very high. The 1 queen bed room was big enough for both of us and our equipment without feeling cramped, and there are wooden ski racks for those of you who ski (they didn't work for snowboards, but we just leaned them up in the room. There is free wi-fi which is helpful (yelp found us Tacos Jalisco - excellent greasy Mexican food), and a small refrigerator and a microwave. They also offer semi-discount lift tickets to Sugar, Alpine, and Northstar (maybe others, I didn't notice), which is good if you forgot to buy the cheaper discount tickets that are available. The hot tub and sauna room was excellent - the high point of the hotel - and we didn't even have to share the water or the sauna.

The okay - Breakfast is free, but you get what you pay for. It consists of doughy little muffins, little danishes, mostly wheat bagels, oatmeal, mediocre coffee and machine generated juice. However, there is a Safeway within walking distance, a bagal shop just off property, and a McDonalds also within walking distance, so this was easily ignored. The heating unit was old and difficult to operate to generate comfort. The room was either too hot or too cold, or transitioning from one to the other, although it definitely blew enough hot air to dry our gloves. The pillows are small, and they only give you 2 (we just dealt with it, and didn't ask for more).

The not so good - the shower was poor. The nozzle sprayed in one two inch wide flacid stream so that you really had to move around to keep from freezing. The bathroom had cracks in the plaster, and was in a generally poor state of repair.

The upshot. If you think that you are going to get a fancy hotel room with all of the nice amenities that go along with it, you should adjust your outlook, and you will be satisfied. Or just pay for it - the sky's the limit in the area. With Squaw and Northstar nearby, you can pay a large fortune for what I am sure amounts to being a very fancy room for the night. For us, the hotel was happily adequate, and the down sides were easily overlooked, or just dealt with, leaving us with a great two night stay in a beautiful part of the world.
