“Exceeded our expectations!!”

Our children purchased the Travelzoo special from South Coast Winery Resort & Spa for us for Christmas. Before going there, we read many of the reviews on Tripadvisor and were a little concerned before arrival. However, most of those concerns were quickly dispelled, and by the end of the trip we wondered what those negative reviewers were smoking, or maybe they were there with the wrong person. ;-) The private wine and cheese pairing was very tastefully prepared, in a beautiful new room, with a group of about 16-18 people. It was fun, informative, and delicious!! Our villa was very large and one of the most attractive rooms we have ever stayed in. The rooms don't have flat screen TV's, but I can't imagine anybody going to this resort spending much time watching TV. It was immaculately clean, the shower/bathroom area was enormous with a walk in shower that comfortably fit two people without having to fight for the shower head, since it had two. The jacuzzi bathtub was also beautiful and comfortable. The fireplace added a lovely touch, as did the soft music playing in the room on the radio upon our entering the room. The bed and pillows were very comfortable, the only thing that prevented us from having a good night sleep was the air conditioner competing with the separate heater. First the heater would come on, then the air conditioner would come on, and it was pretty loud...but nothing that ear plugs did not help, and we were also told upon check out that there was a way of shutting off the air conditioner on the thermostat...wish we knew ahead of time!! We had the hot stone massages in the spa with Carol and Krishna...the best and most relaxing massages we have ever had!!! Thank you Carol and Krishna!! Before and after the massages we enjoyed sitting in our robes, provided by the spa, in the upstairs patio, covered with blankets, since it was a cool and cloudy afternoon, enjoying a glass of wine from their winery. After the massages, we walked to our villa, which was in building 16, villa #1602. We turned on the fireplace and decided to call for room service from the hotel restaurant, rather than dressing up for dinner and fighting the crowds, since it was Valentine's weekend. Dinner was excellent...we shared the french onion soup, the antipasto appetizer, and the buffalo short ribs confit with celery root puree (tastes way better than it sounds and not found in many restaurants)...yummm!!! Everyone at the resort was very pleasant and friendly, making our stay very memorable and we look forward to our return.

Room Tip: Ask ahead of time how to control the heater/air conditioner. Ask for a room near the spa if you are...

“Great little Getaway!”

Overall this is a GREAT little getaway! Rooms are very nice and look like they have been recently renovated! The spa service was exceptional and while a bit pricey, the restaurant is worth a try! You get (6) free wine tastings and a free bottle of wine in your room when you check in!

GREAT place for wine lovers and couples that just want to relax!

“Pricey but Worth Every Penny”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

We were spending 3 weeks travelling around California and wanted a bit of luxury at the start of our trip - we'd just had a long flight from London and my husband had run the London Marathon the day before so a bit of pampering was definitely the order of the day!

Our room was absolutely lovely - very tastefully done out with a HUGE jacuzzi bath in the bathroom, and a patio that overlooked the vineyards.

The restaurant was quite expensive and not a lot of choice for us (we are both vegetarians) so we ate elsewhere so can't comment on the food quality. We had a wine tasting session which was included as part of our room rate and also received a free bottle of wine in our room upon arrival.

The pool area was absolutely gorgeous and lovely for relaxing for a few hours in an afternoon after a morning exploring the surrounding area.

South Coast Winery is highly recommended for a bit of luxury in the Temecula region.

“Horrible rip off!!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

You think the place looks beautiful but it's really old, outdated rooms near parking lots. Half of the rooms look at the parking lot or street, and the other half dont have the views they claim. They charge more for a view and your room is like in a dungeon ..... You can't see anything unless you go outside. It is far too expensive, and the staff is snooty, rude with bad service. Don't stay here, you will feel ripped off.

Room Tip: Yeah, dont stay here

“Beautiful property, but lacks a comfy bed and”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

My husband and I stayed here on Christmas night. The bathroom is opulent and well appointed, and I liked being a separate unit as opposed to wall to wall with other people. The bed was hard and not very comfortable, with more and more hotels providing adjustable mattresses, maybe I'm just getting spoiled. There were little touches that were missed and didn't ruin the trip but certainly didn't make it a seemless process. We paid extra to have certain amenities added to our room and they were to be waiting when we checked in. And we did check in around 10 pm so it wasn't like we showed up at 9am expecting everything to be ready. We called down and they brought our wine up within 10 mins.

When we got to our room, the bed spread seemed mussed and we found a wine cork and the foil in the sink. There were q tips in our trash can. Nothing crazy, but it didn't feel like the room was truly ours. It made us wonder if the reason our bottle of wine wasn't waiting was because someone had been in our room and consumed it. Not an accusation, purely an observation. At the very least it means the room wasn't cleaned as thoroughly as it should have been. Its a very nice property, but I expected a bit more.
