“A very disappointing Christmas”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 December 2011

We are on our final day of a four day stay at Granlibakken. We booked this for our family Christmas. The fact that there is no snow this year is not the fault of the resort; but their 30 day cancellation policy made it impossible for us to change our plans when it was evident there would be no snow.
At almost $500 per night for four of us, this very small room with kitchen was a great disappointment. Everything is very dated. The included breakfast has nothing on hotel chain free breakfasts. We have discovered nothing that makes us feel better about the $500 per night cost. This place may have its charm, but it is certainly not worth the price.

“The 70's called...they want their furniture back”

As others have mentioned, this place has the original hard-used fixtures in their rooms, but the rooms are clean. It is also seriously plumming challenged, and the bathroom counter was ridiculously low (I'm short, and it hit between my knee and crotch). But, how much time do you plan on spending in the room? This is an area that begs to be investigated, so the rooms aren't a deal killer. If they were updated, I would give the place a solid 4 stars/

After hearing that it was the next thing to skiing in your backyard, I expected it to be much smaller. There are a number of buildings with rooms, a pool, tennis courts-just like a real resort. It is easily accessible, a beautiful location, and the staff were great.

The best part was the food. Everything was fresh and made in-house, even the potato chips. The chef did not skimp on quality or quantity. The breakfasts included blintzez (yummy), fresh rolls and fruit, and other breakfast staples. Meals were better than many restaurants.

“Comfortable rooms, great food, near the lake”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 November 2011 via mobile

I was there for a conference in late September and it was perfect for the needs of the group. The rooms were nice although somewhat small (certainly not luxurious) and the beds were very comfortable. I stayed in a town home and it was nice to have a little extra common space. The food for the conference was the best I've had with lots of vegetarian and vegan options although I'm neither. They had the staff to handle large groups and there was always someone to help with a random key issue. It is older but the grounds are beautiful and really close to the lake and other activities. As far as the conference they were set up perfectly for it, lots of technical help, large areas for congregating, always on top of the gallons of coffee an tea we were going through. The granlibakken was by far the most charming conference site I've been to. Enjoy.

“Wonderful resort with excellent staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 October 2011

I love this place! The free breakfast is a massive feast and the best I had seen in 40 years of traveling. The staff will bend over backwards to satisfy your every need. We had a modern room (101G) located near the woods with a flat screen TV, beautiful bathroom, comfortable beds, refrigerator and all the comforts of home. We did stay in a large room (48A) with a fireplace and a patio that definitely needed upgrading (everything was OLD) but was clean and comfortable. The resort is far from the highway and the layout of the structures and parking lots minimizes parking noise.

“They Hosted our Family Reunion”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 September 2011

We had 80 cousins, aunts and uncles converge on Granlibakken this past July. We were scattered all over the place with my small family holed up in a townhouse. The rest stayed in a variety of lodges and dorms and from what I could tell, no one was unhappy. In fact, it was almost unanimous to return there in another two years.

In the morning we would converge on the Garden Deck for the tasty breakfast provided by the resort. Then we'd hang out at the Aspen/Alder Rooms for cards, other games and gossip. These rooms flank a very nice kitchen where each family would take turns making dinner and lunches were more informal, DIY cafeteria style. There were also drop-down video screens where some kids got to watch movies and it was almost like going to the theater. It worked out great!

The other main activity at the resort was the pool. It isn't very big but the kids liked it. The overall condition of the resort was OK. Our townhouse was a little dated with some of the cheap furniture missing it's plastic edge-banding. It didn't seem to bother us much - we weren't there to stay inside and inspect the furnishings. The beds were comfy, the people were nice, the breakfast was good, and the weather was perfect. I'm looking forward to our next reunion.

Room Tip: The lodge rooms seemed a little nicer than the townhouses.
