My husband and I (active mid 60's) stayed here for one night in the Browning Room in early February. The room was large, light, very clean, beautifully decorated and very comfortable. The house is furnished in antiques - mostly American but with a very English feel. The rooms we saw were each unique, gas fireplaces, drawing and breakfast rooms all being just as comfortable and authentic. The bathroom was well-equipped with lovely thick towels, good quality soap products, hair dryer etc. and absolutely spotless. The owners/hosts were very friendly, but never overly chatty or obtrusive, offered wines and cheeses in the early evening and a delicious breakfast on lovely china in a pretty morning room. Great coffee was available from 7 in the morning - a welcome feature for a guy who would take it intravenously if possible! We would definitely go back, felt this was a little pricey for off season but well worth it. Sutter Creek is a good base for exploring pretty Amador County. Its a charming old west town, two minute walk from the Grey Gables, very friendly townspeople, several complimentary wine tastings and good shops and restaurants. Bath robes and crisp white bed linens would have made this a 5 star place for me.
