We stayed 9 nights at the Staybridge recently. My husband and I traveled with our 6 year old son from out of state so that he could undergo reconstructive surgery with a world reknown reconstructive plastic surgeon in the area. We chose the Staybridge as we needed to stay in the area for an extended post operative period of time for medical follow up after surgery and wanted to be comfortable.
The Staybridge is clean, spacious, and the staff is so gracious and kind. They immediately recognized my son as having had surgery and went out of their way to be helpful. We received a little welcome bag when we arrived, and my son was given little toys by one of the managers. Many other families undergoing similar surgery also stay here.
The units are arranged around a central courtyard area. In the courtyard, there is a pool, patio area ( both closed as its currently winter), small basketball area, and putt putt course. We had a ground floor unit facing the courtyard. I believe there are 3 floors. We stayed on the first floor.
The breakfasts have both hot and cold thing that kids (belgian waffles, cereal, fruit) and parents (coffees, eggs, bacon) like. The laundry facility contains 4 washers and dryers that are free; detergent is sold in the little store off of the lobby. The rooms even come with laundry baskets, which is such a small but handy convenience. We had dinner at the Wed pm BBQ reception. There were hot dogs, veg and beef burgers, as well as fries, minestrone soup, and a generous salad and fixins bar. Beverages included juice, tap beer, wine, coffee, tea and water. The Thursday dinner reception was pizza, soup, and salad. We ate out the other nights and bought groceries for snacks. The full kitchen came in handy for refrigerating and heating up leftovers and snacks.
There is a small fitness room on site which consists of 3 cardio machines ( treadmill, bike, stairclimber), so its rather basic but they all worked. This small room had a very strong smell (?carpet cleaner ?air freshener?) which was slightly improved when the door was propped open. When I mentioned this to the staff, I was told that Staybridge guests have complimentary access to a local full service fitness center that is a short drive away.
Our room was a spacious 2BR 2 bath suite with full fridge, stove, sink, and dishwasher. There is free wi-fi in the rooms. We were able to spread out and put our son to bed while the grownups stayed up and watched tv or read in the common area. There are many dining options and a local supermarket nearby. There are also lots of attractions nearby depending only on how far you want to go and what you want to do. We went to the Tech museum in San Jose, and the Stanford mall in Palo Alto. And of course no vacation with small kids would be complete without a trip to the local Target in downtown Sunnyvale.
My only criticisms were that the units were not that well insulated, so we really had to crank up the heat in the evenings, which was fine, but then the air ended up being very dry and stuffy. Also, one of the bedrooms had windows on two walls, and this room was significantly colder than the other bedroom. If I had known, I would have brought a heavier sweater or fleece for lounging and requested more blankets. Also, since we were on the first floor, we mostly kept the shades closed for privacy, so no natural lighting. The indoor ceiling lighting was compact flourescents which are energy efficient, but made the space seem more dreary than it needed to be. The incandescent bulbs in the lamps helped. Only noted since we spent so much time hanging out in the unit.
So in summary, the Staybridge is comfortable and convenient for family travel. The amenities that I liked the most were the free wi-fi, the easily accessible cardio, and breakfasts and receptions (helps to defray the cost of a lengthy stay, and easier than cooking or eating out). My dislikes were fairly superficial (temperature control, lighting). While not quite as comfortable as home, it certainly was a good family option for an extended stay. Would definitely stay here again.
