We were apprehensive about staying here based upon the reviews on this site. We would have stayed elsewhere, but the AAA rate we got was too good to turn down ($99 a night including full buffet breakfast for two and in-room movie). When we arrived, we were very pleasantly surprised.
The lobby entrance is done in a grand Spanish Mission style, complete with oversized fireplace and wrought iron chadelier. It was very inviting. The hotel consists of many parellel two story buildings. I can't speak for the room quality of all of them, but we requested one of the newly renovated rooms and were placed in the building nearest to the lobby. It wasn't perfect, but it was excellent for a 3 star hotel. The bedding was very comforable, and the dark red walls gave the room a warm feeling.
If you are travelling with a lot of heavy luggage or are disabled in any way, be sure to request a 1st floor room, as there are no elevators.
For dinner, there is an excellent microbrewery within walking distance. It's a bit more expensive then a Fridays or an Outback Steakhouse, but the food is phenomenal and the beer is great.
The buffet breakfast at the hotel is also very good. I don't know how much it normally costs, but the food was standard breakfast buffet, with a few pluses. For example they had a Japanese breakfast section with miso soup and grilled salmon.
On the whole, if I was in the area again and the price was right, we would not hesitate to stay here there again.
