Don't stay here if you're looking for a sleek, polished, fancy place. This little gem is all about unique character. A brass unicorn door fixture, a guitar in the shared living room, tons of (yes, they still exsist) VHS videos galore, and packed full of funky soulful knick-knacks that give off a glow of a thrift/antique store vibe. If you can, stay in room 4, on the top floor. You get your own private balcony and a little view of the ocean, surrounded by those warm stinson beach hills. You can walk across the street to restaurants and the beach. The owners are awesome. Down to earth and as funky as the place. If you can handle not being being treated with that fake corporate politeness and interact with real humans, you'll dig this place. I've stayed there twice. This recent visit, I arrived late, and the owner sleepily grumbled, "just pay in the morning." I loved it! There's a hostel, shared feel to the place, with shared bathrooms, but the rooms feel private - very quiet, I never heard anyone else up at night. Lots and lots of blankets. My rooms were always totally clean and neat, with everything I needed and more. Thoughtful touches were everywhere. I don't know where they got that sourdough toast with chocolate chips that I scarfed down in the morning, but I hope it keeps on comin'. For such an affordable place, it's surprisingly rich. Say hi to the kitty cat roaming around outside, kick off your shoes, and relax - "Haus" style!

I had a great time staying at the Redwoods Haus. The owners are very warm and friendly. The room was clean and the beds are comfortable. The breakfast was great and the other family that was staying there loved staying as well. Lots of free movies to watch and board games for the kids. They had free long distance calling and free high speed internet access. The kids loved that they let us use the wet suits and boogie boards at no extra charge I loved the personal attention. The beach is so beautiful and you can hear the waves at night from your room. Our room the top room is called the crows nest you can see the beach from the cute balcony. 3 Great
resaturants to have breakfast., lunch or dinner that are walking distance from the B&B. Great price!! Left very HAPPY:)

Look, I've lived in Marin County, CA before, so I get the aging stoner/hippie scene. But these people are unbelievable. I made a tentative reservation because my travel plans on the tail end of a biz conference were uncertain. I was told I could cancel any time and that my reservation wouldn't officially be held until I mailed a check anyway (despite having given my credit card number). I cancelled two days later, 15 days before my reservation would have been. I cancelled in part because I decided to return home right after my conference, and in part because I saw the horrific roach-motel reviews here. A week before my stay at this place was slated for, they call, saying, "Where are you? We have you down for tonight!" They were a week early, and anyway, I had cancelled. I spoke with the owner's wife, who says he's always confusing things, and get off the phone thinking we've set the record straight -- I'm not coming (still) and my credit card won't be charged. Only, a week later, the week of my cancelled stay, my card was charged. I called the place to ask them to reverse it. The guy was so out of it he asked me my name 15 times, the date of my cancelled stay about half a dozen, and said he didn't recall me or recall telling me I could cancel at any time and that was too bad and my problem. We argued and suddenly I couldn't get a word in edgewise. He said I sounded like a piece of work and if I didn't like it, I could take it up with my credit card company. So I have. And I sincerely hope these criminals don't get to keep my $120. Do yourself a favor and stay somewhere with a modicum of professionalism because this place doesn't have it.

The fact that I'm placing this review 2 year after my stay speaks for itselves. I still have this place in mind and we spent there simply beautiful days with my girlfriend. Looking up its up-to-date pictures on the internet, I found several diverse reviews.. When I landed at this place I was not looking for upcharged rooms available at established hotel chains who are offering more or less the same average services. I was stunned by the unique attention of John, the owner of Redwoods Haus who I found a very nice person as well as his wife. Everything was comfortable and John has shown us around the neghbouring woods and sights to our complete satisfaction. I understand that some people don't appreciate warm reception and prefer to stay in cold reserved hotel rooms focusing on their "privacy" while bellyaching about simple crumb on the carpet thinking they are somehow importnat when the hotel service organizes immediate improvement while having its own mind about them :-) Such people will probably not like this place. Anyone who is not as simple as avarage hotel room will love it.
