“Like staying a Grandma’s house.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 August 2011

Great location in walking distance to restaurants and shops, but the Inn itself and staff needs some TLC. The gardens are lovely, but upon touring the property at check-in, we were warned of a bee problem by the pool. The pool looks as old as the property with signs of needed maintenance work.

The owner/inn keeper boasted that the inn is original and not like other inns that have modernized. Not sure that is a positive thing to point out. Well, that’s clearly the case. I was looking for the charm of an old Victorian Inn, but some updating, especially in the bathroom is needed. The rooms look like they have never been updated. Hated the wooden toilet seat… not charming, just a bit too old for my taste. The tiny sink is in need of replacement. The idea of a claw foot tub sounds beautiful, but not a dated one that you need to shower in, that is placed on top of wall to wall carpeting. I didn’t want to use the A/C, since it was cool out, but wasn’t getting much of a breeze in the room. I couldn’t put the ceiling fan on high, because it would shake and rattle so much. It was too noisy and seemed like it would fall off the ceiling.

Food: They had what seemed like store bought cookies in the evening and sherry. Seems very old fashioned. Not a sherry fan, but my grandmother was. Since we’re in Sonoma, a little complimentary wine would have suited me better. Breakfast was large, but lacking. The fruit was tasty but not sure if it was as fresh as it could have been. I liked the hard-boiled eggs, but the pastries were average at best. Website says granola… didn’t get any of that.

The part I disliked the most, that seemed in appropriate, were all the rules (ie. turn lights off when not in room, rooms have A/C but isn’t necessary, only can use hot tub for 1 hour and be out by 9:00 pm). I don’t know why they have a hot tub because it seems the owner really doesn’t want it used. You need to make an appointment to be shown how to operate the tub. When I approached the owner about it, I got a clear feeling she was not too happy. She made it clear that there was an hour limit (b/c other guests may want to use it, but we never saw another guest while we were there) she went on to explain that a couple nights prior a couple used it and stayed in too late and she could hear them and so she had to yell out to them that it was time to get out (she lives in a room right next to the cottage and hot tub). I felt like a child visiting my grandmother’s house. You don’t want to go on vacation and visit wine country and have these types of rules and regulations. I think the Inn is priced too high for what you get. Either lower the price or revamp the Inn and vibe.

“overrated- stay somewhere else”

The grounds at the B & B are very pretty, but that's about the only thing we enjoyed. Our room was in great need of an upgrade. The bathroom was so tiny it was almost impossible to use. The breakfast did not feature any cooked items and while the staff was very nice and helpful, the owner wasn't friendly. At one point, she interrupted our breakfast and asked us if we had seen someone who wasn't staying at the B & B "break in" and use the hot tub. She spoke to us for 10 minutes and at one point I thought she was accusing us. It was highly unprofessional and I was not happy.

Stay somewhere else - not worth the money.

“Best B&B ever!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 July 2010

My girlfriend and I spent 3 fantastic days at The Victoria Garden Inn. The surroundings in the garden and the room was just amazing and we enjoyed every minute of it.
The service was more than you could ask for. Smiles all day long and a friendly atmosphere. They were so kind in recommending places to go and the personal service in connection with breakfast made us feel like home,

I would recommend this B&B to anyone who should find themselvs so luckyh to be in Sonoma at some point.

“Great Last-Minute Find!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 April 2010

My husband and I booked this bed and breakfast the day before (luckily we were in during the less busy season). We were pleasantly surprised with our find!

The room was nice and had plenty of room to store our belongings, the staff was very courteous, and we were within a SHORT walk of Sonoma's beautiful square with an old theater, many varieties of cuisine, and, of course, wine tasting rooms. We were also within walking distance of a great winery!!

The best part was that our hostess gave us four tasting tickets which allowed us to have a tasting at these wineries for FREE :) We really got a great value with this bed and breakfast by saving $10-$20 for each tasting we had!

When we returned from our day of adventures, we were welcomed with Sherry sitting out in the living room with relaxing classical music playing softly in the background!

The breakfast was wonderful -- the most interesting cabernet sauvignon JELLY (locally made), eggs from chickens that were practically in our back yard, and all local produce and pastries. We stuffed ourselves with delicious food for our day of wine tasting.

We were absolutely delighted to stay at the Victorian Garden Inn, and we highly recommend it to others!

“Beware!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 October 2008

My husband and I stayed here (Oct.3-) for one nite for our Honeymoon on our way through California...

We thought we would be staying in a nice, romantic B&B in Sonoma... Boy, we were WRONG.

Well first it started when we tried to cancel our room b/c we were 7 hours south of Somoma and didn't think we could make it back in time to tour Sonoma (we only had a the day to spend there)...we were told we would be changed for our room anyway if we did not make it. We were told that the B&B was "sold out ",and that they have been turning people away all weekend.

We were then rushed to check-in before 4 O'clock so that they could go home. So we spent the whole day rushing and driving to make it in time to ckeck-in.

We found out after checking in that we would be the only guest staying in the main house, which meant that they were not "sold out!"

Our room was very small and musty and it seemed like no one had stayed in that room for a year. None of the linens matched and it seemed like they had just threw a bunch of odds and ends in this room to TRY to make it homely.

This place is a dump and over priced! They charged us $204 for a room with a shared bathroom. I would have rather stayed at a Motel 6 and at least had matching linens and our own bathroom!

Beware!!!
