I have to say this is the first time I've ever written such a poor review. However, I am just so fully disappointed in our experience that I feel the need to share it with you.
This hotel and spa is overpriced and has very poor service.
Check-in was uneventful. We had reserved two rooms online several months prior, and paid full price. Throughout both nights nobody in my party was able to receive restful sleep due to the hard mattresses, and lack of insulation between floors or walls. I felt like we were competing between the noises of the lobby, slamming doors, and the people upstairs who walked around, seemingly all night. I know there's nothing you can do about the insulation and the way the hotel was built. However, for the amount of money we were paying to stay I was very disappointed feeling as if I was staying in a hostel or poorly made apartment. I also had trouble believing that the photos we had viewed online were even part of the same hotel. The rooms were depicted MUCH roomier than they actually were. Also, the window in the bathroom was permanently stuck open a crack, making for a very cold shower.
The spa was also a disappointment. It was overcrowded to the point of having no seats available to wait for your treatment. I received the ginger soak, which was lovely, the technician was professional and polite. However the small room with the ritual bathing was swarming with people. It was not quiet, and certainly not relaxing. You felt like you were in a bathtub with 10 strangers. I also felt like I was part of a cattle call. On top of it all the cleaning folks kept coming through the waiting area with a large rolling bin of towels. You could hear it in the room, while trying to relax rolling over the tiles, and politely asking people to move out of the way so they could fit through the tight quarters.
Our total bill was over $1000 per room. I had expected to pay that amount up front, I have no problem paying for exceptional service. I do not believe any of the service we received to be exceptional, or even good. Upon checking out I attempted to raise the concerns we had to the front desk. The response was 'Awww, I'm sorry".
The pros of the weekend revolved around the Big 3 restaurant, lovely service and wonderful food. The wine tasting in the lobby was also very nice, along with the cheeses that were offered. The shampoo and conditioner in the bathrooms were nicely scented. The only reason this is getting more than one star.
For the money you could do much better in Sonoma or Calistoga
