“Cozy Hotel!”

We stayed here last August. I really like this hotel. It is located in an odd spot though, right before downtown sonoma which makes the location really convenient but behind it is residential, but it didn't bother us. Everyone we encountered at the hotel was really friendly. They have a free shuttle that goes to downtown Sonoma. This renaissance is however a little smaller than the others we've stayed at. They had a wedding going on that night and the music was loud until 11:00 pm or so and it was located right across from our room. We had a handicap accessible room because there were no other kings available but it actually worked out nice because it was much more roomy with a full size dinning table in the room and two patios. We wanted to swim but they're swimming pool isn't that big and it was always crowded. The concierge is great as well , lots of complimentary and discounted wine passes. This is our go-to hotel when we want to visit the Napa/Sonoma area.

“Nice hotel, "odd" location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

We stayed at the Lodge over the weekend, and we enjoyed the hotel - the grounds and the hotel facilities are well kept, I guess to be expected of a Resorts' standard. I liked the Cottage rooms in particular, spacious with a fireplace. There were 3 of us and we had 2 double beds - didn't realize until we checked into the room that there was a sofa bed too in the room, which was a nice touch for us. The only "odd" part of this hotel is that it is located on the main road into Sonoma, and the back of the hotel faces a residential area - not very "resort-like". Other than that, once inside, it is a good hotel.

“Inviting property, heart of Sonoma”

Stayed here recently on business but would return for a pleasure trip. The room was spacious, well appointed and included a fireplace and soaking tub. Very nice touches. Didn't get a chance to eat in the restaurant, but the catered events were very good.

Room Tip: Ask if your room has an outside light - they can't be turned off and can detract from the sleep...

“Nice Place In Sonoma”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2012

We have stayed at the Lodge at Sonoma several times but I never had the chance to write a review. The Lodge has been through some ups and downs over the years and various management changes dictated (and one would presume the parent company Marriott dictated) changes, no changes, upgrades to the property, etc. However, this stay was very nice and while not perfect, the Lodge gets an 8.5 to 9.0 on a 10 scale. The rooms are nice; the service is professional and polite; and the facility itself is beautiful. Would highly recommend the Lodge.

Pros: The rooms are nice and appear to have been recently upgraded; the facilities (the spa, the pool, the restaurant) are all very nice; the front desk, staff, concierge, waitstaff, maids, gardeners, etc. have always been quite pleasant and helpful.

Cons: It is a tad expensive but probably comparable to what you can get in the rest of Wine Country. And while we don't find it a drawback, we have heard many guests complain about the location - it is about, perhaps 10 blocks? from the Sonoma Plaza and there is not really a sidewalk to walk to the Plaza for about? 1/4th of the way or more... The pro to this is that the Lodge does have a free shuttle service to the Plaza and it was always effective for us.

Room Tip: The "Cottage Rooms" are the best, but the Lodge rooms are nice too - especially if you can...

My husband and I stayed at the Lodge in January. It was fantastic!!! We stayed in a cottage room and enjoyed the bathtub and fireplace. The grounds of the lodge are really nice and kept up. The staff were all so kind and helpful. The shuttle service to and from the "sqaure" is really nice and free. We didn't want to leave and we can't wait to come back. We would recommend this hotel to anyone and everyone!
