“Good location. Freshly renovated.”

I stayed here two nights while on business in the area. It is a bit more expensive than other HIE properties, but reasonable when compared to other hotels in this area. This is an older property, but is in a good location with nice views of nearby parks and lakes. The rooms have recently been renovated, featuring new, modern bathrooms, flat screen TV, etc. My room was clean and comfortable. The room HVAC unit was noticably quieter than average. The staff were freindly, and efficient. Breakfast was above average. My only complaint was the "business center", which consisted of a single computer on a table in the rear foyer. The location had a lot of distracting foot traffic, and a cold blast of air every time the door opened. Also, the wi-fi was down part of one day, and weak in many parts of the building (according to my associates who brought laptops). Nevertheless, in all other respects, I found this hotel to be quite good.

Room Tip: Higher floors have better views, and are farther above noisy highways. Elevator is fast, so don'...

“Nice, under remodeling”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 January 2012

There is some remodeling going on, but loud noises didn't seem to start until about 9:00 AM. Only half the rooms were occupied the night we stayed. There is a big pond in front and behind the property (the pond behind has a nice trail to walk around with little bridges). This hotel has outside corridors. It is a couple of city blocks from the beach, and Embassy Suites is right next door. There is a McDonald's and Starbuck's a block away and Chili's right behind the property.

We went to Monterey for a golf trip for my father-in-law, and they stayed in the room beside ours. They would have liked a handicapped room, but the handicapped rooms only come with 1 double bed. The rooms are on the small side (compared to other Holiday Inn's), we requested king rooms through Travelocity, but received 2 doubles instead. There wasn't a fridge or microwave, just a coffee pot, big flat screen TV, newly remodeled bathroom.

Breakfast was ample: there was fruit, yogurt, cereal, oatmeal, muffins, toast, bagels, juices, coffee, scrambled and hard boiled eggs, biscuits and gravy, and a pancake machine (this was new to me!!).

We got a good rate through Travelocity, but Holiday Inn Express's website will match the price, and at least you can be sure what type of room you will be getting, and accumulate your Priority Club Rewards.

Room Tip: On the oceanside of the property, floors 4 & 5 have a view. This is also the street and freew...

Liked the rooms except for outdated and needing attention bathtubs. Dont like that the corridors are external, feels like a motel. Breakfast is horrid as place is way too small for all the guests to fit. Check in/out was a breeze and helpful

Our bathroom renovation is near completion!! It looks like we will have all newly renovated bathrooms by the end of January. Currently the 5th-3rd floors are finished as well as 1/2 of the second floor. I wish your experience at the breakfast would have been a better one. It sounds like you may have stayed during around the Holidays I apologize if the staff did not make you aware of the additional seating we have off the lobby for breakfast. We would love to be able to welcome you back so you can experience one of the newly renovated bathrooms. Thank you for taking the time to post a review.

“Overpriced in comparison to other nicer Holiday Inn's”

Over the holidays, I stayed in the Holiday Inn Express at Monterey Bay. Seeing that I am a Priority Club member, I try to stay at Holiday Inn when it is an option.

Service at reception was friendly, but I was a little shocked by the price for a Holiday Inn Express. This room was fifty dollars more than a better room in a Holiday Inn downtown San Francisco. The worst part about it was the hotel did not merit a higher rate for a number of reasons.

The room was clean, but the heater/ac was extremely dated (think 1970's) and slow to work. The furniture was ok, but for the price I was disappointed by the look of the room, most especially the bathroom which is tiny and needs a major over haul.

Breakfast was so crowded and there weren't any seats available. I had to take my food up to my room.

This is also the first Holiday Inn Express I have stayed at without an indoor pool.

On a positive note the bedding was comfortable and the hotel is in a convenient location.

Thank you for taking the time to post your comments regarding your stay at the Holiday Inn Express Monterey Bay. It is important to us to know what problems may exist so that we can work on them in hopes of improving the hotel. Our bathroom renovation in which we have all new tubs and showers being installed is two weeks from completion, top 3 floors are ready! Breakfast does tend to get busy during high occupancy days and we have made arrangements for additional seating. We appreciate the feedback we receive from our guests and welcome any opportunity to improve guest satisfaction.
