“Wow...really good value and excellent place”

My wife and I are frequent travelers to the area--she has to come here every other weekend for graduate school. We used to stay at the best budget motel you can find for under $100 around Long Beach: the Super 8 motel near the roundabout. With discount codes, I used to be able to get the place for around $70. Lately, the prices have gone up with the economy and our price tags now average $78 there. Anyways, this weekend I noticed that the super 8 was completely booked. So, I looked around and found this place and noticed all the great reviews. For $113, I thought it was worth a try.

Wow, my wife and I are super impressed. For just $40-50 more, it's like going from the ghetto to Beverly Hills. I'm exaggerating a bit, of course, and I think the Super 8 motel is a great budget motel; however, if you're older and more weary of noise, old dank rooms, and noisy low class guests, you should definitely give the Hampton Inn a shot. It's just many levels much better than the Super 8.

First, the Hampton is an order of magnitude much quieter than the Super 8. You do NOT hear noisy neighbors, nor do you hear noisy kids partying out in the parking lot, nor do you hear through paper thin walls. This place is built solid. Second, holy cr*p are the rooms and building nice. It looks pretty dang new, and the decor is very chic. I can't say the same at all for the Super 8's we've stayed at in Long Beach (we've stayed at a couple in the area). Third, the amnenties at the Hampton are much better. There is a really nice gym, really nice pool and spa (although, the Super 8 also has these), and an excellent business center and foyer. Wifi is free, and there is a nice flat screen TV.

All in all, I think my wife and I should have stayed here these past 2 years. $50's does add up, but losing sleep or comfort is well worth it, I think.

Room Tip: Ask for rooms without adjoining doors.

“Nice Quiet Stay”

The staff was helpful and professional at all times. The overall condition of the hotel is very good and for the price its a bargain. We had a nice room on the 4th floor that was comfortable and quiet. The included breakfast worked out fine, no eggs but bacon, muffins, cereal, waffles,
fresh fruit, coffee, tea, juice, etc...It was good but not great and I didn't have to spend extra money to get it. Located not too far from the beaches, the 405, or downtown Long Beach, all with in 5-12 minutes by car. Have stayed here in the past and will again in the future.

“Perfect for what it is”

Easy to find, at the corner of Westminster Ave. and Seal Beach Blvd., with dining and shopping options close at hand.
The staff seems friendly, and the room was clean.
Our particular room had a walk-in shower rather than a tub; fine with us.
Don't know that this would be a choice for a longer vacation, to say, Disneyland (although the park is not that far from here), but for a day or two it is just fine.

“'Bout What You Would Expect”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 November 2011

This hotel is about six miles from my house but my wife was having some long lost friends stay the night and I wasn't ready to hear them reminisce about high school. Besides there were some very important college football games being broadcast!

I was trying to keep the cost under $100.00. I had hopes armed with a AAA card and a AARP card that as a last minute walk-in, I might get a more favorable rate. Particularly when I cited another Hampton in nearby Cypress as being cheaper, and a Courtyard by Marriott, also in Cypress, being even cheaper than that. Alas it was not to be. I received the advertised rate which with bed tax came out to about $130.00.

I requested the highest floor hoping to avoid any noise. Granted by being on the fourth floor there was no one above me, but the floor was apparently popular so the couple with the two kids next to me was a bit of an intrusion in my bachelor-for-a-night serenity. And because this hotel is bordered by two busy thoroughfares, Seal Beach Blvd and Westminster Blvd, there was some street noise. But all in all once the kids went to bed and the street traffic died down, it was a fairly quiet night.

The room was comfortable with the standard amenities. I thought it a bit unusual that the king sized bed was against the outside bathroom wall rather than against the next room's wall, but it worked out fine since the bureau with the TV was near the window. Frankly the location of the bed probably reduced noise from the adjoining room.

The bathroom seemed a little odd. The toilet seemed to be particularly low. The shower head particularly high (about a foot above my head and I am six feet tall). There was no bathtub. The high shower head was wonderful except the water saving feature reduced water pressure so much it was hard to rinse my hair. I don't take baths so having just a shower was fine with me but I had to wonder if that was true of all the rooms or just some of the rooms. If you are a bath person you will want to ask.

Breakfast was composed of sausages, French toast fingers along with the usual assortment of fruit, yogurt, bagels, English muffins, mini-muffins, bread, cereal and, of course, the ubiquitous waffler maker. The gal overseeing the breakfast room was on top of keeping everything stocked and cleaning up the tables as guests left. Knowing some hotels are not nearly as efficient, I appreciated her diligence.

I did not use the pool or work-out room so I can't comment on that. This hotel sits adjacent to a Boeing facitility as well as in close proximity to a group of industrial buildings. It is also not far from the 405 and 22 freeways and could be considered a good option for an event in Huntington Beach, Seal Beach or Cypress. Out the back door there is a Del Taco restaurant. Out the front door is a Starbucks, a Subway and an Japanese restaurant. I could see staying here on business for a few days and being very comfortable.

I can't give it five stars because it really wasn't extraordinary. It was, however, about what you would expect and frankly to watch a few football games and avoid the coffee klatch at home, that was all I expected.

Room Tip: Top floor facing Boeing. The other side of the building sits over a busy, 24-hour Del Taco restauran...

“Nice Hotel, Good Value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 November 2011

Our soccer team stayed at this hotel May 2011. It was a nice hotel, clean and roomy. Two queen beds and a sofa, very comfortable. Served a nice breakfast which saved us money in eating out. We will definitely stay again. Parking was a bit of a problem due to the fact it was so busy that weekend for the soccer tournament, but that's to be expected in a situation like that.
